We Thought Wrong!
~The following story is true maybe~
When my sister and I moved here we never believed in all the stories, but that has all changed now.
It was about a year ago. My sister Kory and my self had just moved to Millstop in California. Of course our mother came along. My sister and I are twins, both seventeen, we both have copper red hair and green eyes, both love sports especially swimming and tennis. Oh and I’m Kylee.
When we moved hear it was in August my sister and I were both excited about going to school, Millstop high or MSH for short. We just went out and bought are new school clothes. While we were their we met some kids who go to MSH. They were nice, and the guys were pretty cute. We got to talking and that’s when we first herd the stories.
The stories were about murders, ghost, people who lived 100 years ago but still walk among use today. “There true!” One of the boys kept on insisting. Of course we didn’t believe them I mean would you?
“Bing Bong.” The door bell rang and Kory went to answer it.
“Their here,” Kory yelled to me as she grabbed her backpack and swung it on her back.
“Coming,” I said, “Bye mom love you.” I gave her a quick peck on the cheek and ran out the door.
We started walking to school with our new found friends we met in the mall. “So you just moved here?” Heather asked, “Must be hard?”
“It’s not too bad,” I said with a frown, “It’s just sort of hard to make new friends, here it’s different then …. “my voice trailed off.
“What was it like where you lived?” Kyle asked with a smile. I guess he was waiting for me to answer because he was only looking at me and not Kory. I just wasn’t really ready to talk about it, not yet.
I decided to change the subject. “So how much longer is it going to take to get there, I’m getting tired”.
After about two more minutes we got there. “So we’re going to have to walk that every day?” My sitter Kory asked. “Why don’t we just drive?”
“This is a small town there’s barely any room to park at the mall, do you really think we could get a spot, let alone be able to get out of the parking lot quickly?” Samantha said. “Plus,” she added, “it’s good exercise”.
“Fine,” my sitter Kory said and let out a heavy sigh. Nate gave her a playful shove, but it sent her tumbling into a tree. “Oww!” she walled and went charging back at Nate. Instead of moving out of the way he grabbed her right as her elbow landed right in his chest.
“Oh,” Nate said with a puff, “you’re asking for it.” She started to run but I grabbed her arm to stop her.
“Come on we’re going to be late stop playing around.”
Nate put a pout on his face and let his chin quiver. “Sorry,” he said. I would have believed him too if it wasn’t for his eyes it’s like they were laughing at me.
The first day of school went by fast mostly just learning our classes and schedule. My sister and I were in the same class and so were Nate and Kyle. “Too bad Sam and Heather aren’t in our class,” Kyle said.
“Yeah,” I said and started to walk home. “Maybe, we should meet somewhere later” I suggested. Kyle, Sam, Heather and Nate exchanged looks. “Umm….well….There is this one place we try to meet at night,” Kyle continued, “It’s at an over pass”.
“So it’s kind of like a hangout,” I said, “But I mean how late to we leave, like what time would we meet?”
“Well, we meet around midnight.” Samantha said.
“You mean your parents let you out that late. How do you get them to do th….?”
“Shh,” Kyle interrupted, “they don’t know, we sneak out.” Nate suddenly looked at me like he was challenging me to say something back. Instead I just started walking home.
“Mom, we’re home!” I yelled to her when Kory and I walked through the door. “Mom you there?” I called again.
“Hi honey sorry, I’m just in the basement,” our mom finally called up. I gave a sigh of relief and ran up the stairs to my new room.
I was so happy to have a room to myself back home my sister and I had to share a room. One time we got into such a big fight our mother had to split the room in half.
After awhile I heard a knock on the door. “Come in,” I yelled, “it’s open.”
“Honey are you okay?” My mom asked as she walked in, “I haven’t heard from you since you got home, don’t you want to talk about your first day at school?”
“There isn’t anything to talk about. All we did was learn our classes and schedule” I said. “Oh,” my mom said disappointed. “Well, dinner is in an hour see you there.” My mom put a smile on her face and walked out the door. She’s so pretty, I thought. With her copper red hair that almost looked strawberry blond, her blue eyes and freckles, sometimes she almost looks her age.
After dinner the phone rang so I answered it. “Hello,” I said.
“Hi,” a deep masculine voice said, “Is this Kylee?”
“Yes,” I answered “Who is this?”
“It’s Kyle, you know from school.”
“Oh hi,” I said.
“Hi,” he answered, “I was wondering if you were still coming tonight, you know to the over pass. We meet under it and…..”
“Uh, Kyle,” I interrupted, “not to be rude but, how did you get this number?”
“I got it from Nate.”
“And how did he get it?”
“From Kory,” Kyle said, “so anyways.”
“Sorry Kyle but I have got to go. Oh and yes I’m coming.” Then I hung up the phone. “Kory,” I yelled “Come here right now!”
Kory came running. “Yes?” she asked. I guess she could tell I was mad because she kept looking at the stairs, as if she would have to get a quick get away.
“How could you give out our number, you don’t even know him. How could you?” Kory looked surprised at my anger. “Kory please answer me!”
“I’m sorry.” She said and walked away.
It was about 12:30 a.m. when I heard a knock on my door and Kory poked her head in. Instead of saying she just pointed down the stairs and threw my coat on my bed. It took awhile to realize what she meant, but then I remembered the over pass.
We started walking there. It took about 20 minutes or so to get there. When we got there I noticed that everyone was there. Nate, Kyle, Sam, Heather, Kory and of course myself. Kyle gave a wave and signaled us over. I noticed that Nate and Sam were both drinking beer, Kyle had a coke in his had and Heather had a diet one.
“Hey,” Nate said to Kory, “want one?” he asked and shook his beer can.
“Umm…” Kory thought, “no, but I’ll have a diet coke.”
“Same here,” I added. Heather tossed us each a coke and we started to talk.
Kory and I were regulars, so were Samantha, Nate and Kyle. Every night we just met there to grab a drink and talk.
We were doing that for about two months, also lately, Nate had been over at our house a lot, and everything was going great. But on one night everything was about to change. We were walking to the over pass. Everything was normal. Almost everyone was there except for Samantha. We did our usual thing. About three hours later we all decided to go home since no one drove we decided to walk home together.
As we were walking we saw something shiny. “Hey,” Kory said, “What’s that?” We all looked over to see. “Oh my God,” Kory squeaked,” it’s…..it’s…. it’s Sam.”
Suddenly, we all gasped. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Samantha was lying face up in a pool of blood. Her brown hair soaked with blood and all tangled up, her mouth open in a never ending scream, and her brown eyes staring blankly up at someone. Kyle went down to inspect her and see if he could find out what happened.
“Oh,” he let out a sob, “Oh, Sam.” He turned to us his eyes shining with tears. “Someone,” he stopped for a minute and then continued, “Someone hit her head against the curb. You can tell by the blood on the curb, the back of her head and the bruises on her neck.” He let out another sob. “Why?” he asked.
Nate bent down to help him up. “Hey,” Nate said, What’s this ?” Nate pulled something shiny out of Samantha’s hand. When he did I gasped. “You,” Nate said and pointed a accusing finger at me.
“W-W-What?” I stammered, “Me?”
Nate put his open palm up to my face, and I gasped again. “You,” he said again “how could you, why would you?”
But I didn’t,” I said. Every one was looking at me now, but I didn’t know what to do.
“Then what’s this?” Nate pushed his palm closer to my face. “I saw you take them off yesterday. There yours! There your EARINGS!!!” Nate was screaming now, Kyle put his hand on Nates shoulder to calm him down.
“Maybe Sam borrowed them from Kylee and was putting them on as she was walking here,” Kyle suggested.
I was about to say something when Kory jumped in. “Come on were going to be late.
“But what about?” Kyle asked pointing to the corps on the ground.
“Don’t worry,” Kory said” We can call the cops in the morning around 6:00 AM. We’ll say we were going for a jog and found her there.”
We all agreed and started to walk. Even though I couldn’t see them I could feel there eyes staring at me.
The next couple of days were torture. The police questioned us all. There eyes were cold. It’s like they were looking through you not at you. They questioned at the starting that were easy like what’s your name, where do u live type thing, but then they got into other question. I think they asked every one the same question to see if the story would change and who changed it. Then we went to the funeral, it was in a small church there was barley enough room to fit every one in It. “That was so sad.” My sister Kory said. I could only nod I couldn’t talk, and my stomach was in knots so I couldn’t eat. It was the worst feeling ever but, it got worse.
Somehow the story got around that my earrings were found in her hands. Know would even look at me in the eye anymore. The only people who were nice to me were Kyle and my sister, but I had a feeling that she didn’t believe in me too.
Suddenly Nate started showing up at our house more and more. Every time he would give me a cold and cruel look that sent shivers up my spine.
One night I invited Kyle over to our house and he agreed to meet me at my house at 9:00.
When Kyle got here we started talking. “Kyle,” I asked, “why were you one of the most upset people at the funeral, I mean next to Samantha’s parents?”
“Well,” he started, “I guess I should tell you. Samantha and I were going out for one and a half years so, it was really hard on me to see that.” Kyle let a sob escape his lips. I put a reassuring hand on his shoulder. He gave me a soft smile. “Kylee,” he asked, “why don’t you ever come to the overpass any more?”
“Well,” I said in a soft voice, “I’m pretty sure I’m not wanted there.”
“Kylee, please come tonight?” Kyle asked. I thought about it and agreed. I thought the worst they could do was ignore me, but I was wrong.
At about 1a.m. I left my room and looked into my sister’s, the bed was arranged nicely with the pillows under the sheets to make it look like she was still there. I walked over to my mom’s room and heard soft breathing.
I started walking to the overpass when Kyle stopped me half way and told me to be calm because they didn’t know I was coming. When I got there, I wished I had never come The hatred in in Heathers and Nates eyes was to much. When I went to turn around and go home Nate grabbed me by the arm and spun me around.
“Murderer,” Nate said, “We can prove it too.” He looked over at heather who was staring coldly at me.
“What? How?” I asked, “I didn’t do any thing.”
Nate grabbed both of my shoulders and started to back me against a wall, then he started to squeeze my shoulder tight. Kyle went to grab him but he moved out of the way. Suddenly Heather walked over beside Nate and put a hand on his shoulder.
“We can prove it,” Heather said “So, tell us Kylee what happened to your dad?”
“Hey,” Kory gasped But Heather and Nate just ignored her and kept staring at me.
“Tell us!” Nate screamed “Tell us!” He pushed me against the wall and then I fell to the ground. Kyle came and helped me up. “Tell us!” Nate screamed again.
It’s okay,” Kyle whispered, “You can go home if you want to.”
“NO,” I said and turned to Heather and Nate, “I’ll tell them. It was last year,” I started, “About two months before we moved here. Mom and Kory had just gone out, I was up stairs listening to my music, and dad was reading a book in the den. It was about an hour later when I heard a scream and ran downstairs to see someone climbing out of the window and my dads limp body lying on the couch with three stabs in it.” Tears started to roll don my cheeks, but I didn’t wipe them away as I started to walk slowly home.
The next day was horrible, Kory wouldn’t even talk to me. School went by quickly. After school of course Nate followed Kory home. When I got home I decided to record a diary to take my mind of my problems. I just finished last night when I heard a scream. I ran down the stairs just in time to see Nate kneeling over my sister with a knife. “Oh my god!” I screamed.
Nate turned around and got off my sister. “Glade you’re here,” Nate said as a cruel smile spread over his lips, “I get a two for one today.”
“Nate what are you doing?” I screamed. He started to run after me so I ran into my room and locked the door. Nates smile stayed on his face as he slammed through my door. “Nate why are you doing this?” I screamed again.
“I killed Samantha,” He said.
“W-What?” I stammered “Why?”
“Because I hated her!” Nate yelled “I guess since your going to die I can tell you the story. I started seeing Samantha behind Kyle’s back, he was so clueless. But after a while I didn’t want to share her any more so I asked her to leave him but she said NO! And left me. And I wanted to get her back for that. Then you two showed up I researched both of you and I found that information about your dad on the web so it was perfect. But when I accidentally told Kory about the two timing thing she flipped and figured out the rest herself so I have to kill her, right after I kill you that is.”
Suddenly Nate lunged at me but I moved and her scraped my arm and got the knife stuck in the wall. Nate was trying to pull the knife out when we heard sirens. Nate grabbed the knife and lunged at me again, but this time I caught it just as the police came up the stairs. Suddenly Nates face changed to fear and he put his hands up. “Help,” he cried, “She killed Samantha and she’s going to kill me.”
“No he’s the killer.” I said but the police ran at me grabbed both of my hands. When they started to drag me out of my room I remembered something. “Wait,” I yelled “The tape player it’s been recording the whole thing.”
Nate went for the tape but the police man got there first and rewinded it a bit. “It was perfect.” We heard Nates voice say. The police listened to the rest of the tape and hand cuffed Nate and took them off me. I watched as they took Nate down the stairs and out the house. All he did was hung his head as they pushed him into the car and drove away.
