So, I'm walking around and the UCA/secretary tells me I've got a phone call. And I frown wondering who it was considering I didn't page anyone. So I get on the phone and this man asks if I took care of Mrs. So and So. The name is faintly familiar so I ask when this was. He says 4 weeks ago. And I panic on the inside. @_@ I'm wondering if I messed up and now they're calling to interrogate me or something. He then says he wants to thank me for the care that was given to his mother! And at this point I'm grinning like a fool. I ask how his mother's doing and she was doing well. She had cancer but it's doing well and she's recovering nicely. He then says he's a nurse and wants to thank me from one nurse to another. ^-^ He wished me a happy holidays, I did the same and wished his mother all the best. Rather rewarding.
Then yesterday I had a patient with dangerously high blood pressure and heart rates. I let the docs know ASAP so they could fix it before she had a stroke or something. They did a test and found out she had a blood clot in her lungs. When the docs found this out, one called me and thanked me for being so preceptive and catching this. She made it sound like I saved this woman's life. I don't know that I did anything that other nurses wouldn't do though. Who knows, maybe I did. Glad to know what was wrong with her so we can fix it. 3nodding
