It was weird. When I got home from school, Nicholas and Benvolio were nowhere to be found. They are impatient cats and are normally waiting by the front door when I get home.
I walked up the stairs and looked around my father’s room suspiciously. “Nicholas? Benvolio?” I spoke persuasively. Then I saw the blankets rustle. My cats both popped out from underneath my father’s bed inconspicuously, cocking their heads and looking sweet.
“What is it?” Benvolio said a bit too calmly. He looked over at Nicholas, a grin spreading across his whiskery face.
“W-…What were you-” I started.
“Nothing.” Nicholas cut me off swiftly. He walked over to Benvolio and whispered in his ear, “Meeting adjourned.”
“I best be going. Good day,” Benvolio said to me, looking behind his shoulder, as he and Nick pranced down the stairs.
I stood there dumbfounded for a moment, then regained my wits long enough to log into Gaia.
