TOTAL RANDOMNESS!!!
Believe 2!!! ZOMG!
previous page smile

"Okay, have you ever heard of the idea that if a whole stadium of people willed a match to light, believed wholeheartedly that it would, that the match would catch fire without it being struck?" Kaylee nodded, still measuring her movements, looking at Matthew as if he would spontaneously combust. "Well thats the same basic principle. They believe it will work, so it does. However if a lot of them are non-belivers, just there to see if it does, it wont because people who don't believe subconciously set off their own counterspells to prevent it from happening in order to prove to themselves that what they believe is true. Anyone can do what I did here with the pictures, even you if you believed you could. Its all about belief. Theres a whole other world within this one, that most people are completely unaware of because they don't believe in such things as faries, gnomes, centaurs, wizards... They're all here, just like Di, but you can only see them if you believe they exist." He broke off staring at Kaylee, almost as if he were begging her to get what he was trying to say. She cleared her throat.

"So what you're saying," She frowned in concentration, "Is that there is like this... this... community of mythological creatures, the very same kind that we read about in storybooks, living alongside us invisible, just because people don't believe that they exist?" Matthew nodded, grinning. She got it. "Mhm... Okay, and lets say for a moment that I believe you. That it is possible to do and see these things if you believe that you can. How did I see Di for the first time? I didn't believe. I mean a twink? Creatures like her only exist in farietales. I mean sure, I've wished they were possible but I've never believed that they e could be real... And if what you're saying is true then that would mean I wouldn't be able to see her." Matthew smiled.

"Lets put it this way, Kaylee, in a completely magic-free way, I am very good at reading people. And after spending some time with you I'm pretty sure you did. You had wished so hard for magic to be real that a part of you did believe. I'm betting that ever since you were, oh, say in middle school, when you first got inducted into the blonde clones that you were hanging out with when you ran into me. You've read about, and wished for any sort of magic farietale you could get. Wanting to be able to wisk all of your troubles away with just a wave of your wand and some random made up words. I'm positive that you wished for these things so hard and for so long that a part of you truly believed that it could happen. Just enough, at least, so when this one," He glared at Di, who had finally managed to climb up to her perch on the bedpost. She looked back as innocently as she could. "Decided to show herself to you, you were able to see her." Kaylee was stunned. How could he have known that her only escape from the clique had been the cheesy fantasy novels that she swore she had given up in seventh grade when Lindsey had found them in her room and dubbed them 'uncool'. His face darkened a little again. "And once I'd found out that you could see her I had to step in. Because without the proper guidence who knows what could have happened to you." Kaylee had a feeling that he at least had an idea of what would've happened but she didn't ask.

"I admit it was curel of me to let you think you were just insane for as long as I did, and I truly forgot how overwhelming all of this information could be, so I'm sorry about bombarding you with it. But when it was obvious that you could see all of the gateways, and that they were bothering you I knew you believed enough for me to freeze them. You do seem to have an uncanny faith in me.... its odd." This last was added almost as an afterthought, but Kaylee didn't notice for she had grasped onto another word in his speech.

"Gateways?" She asked. "You mean they aren't just pictures?" She tentatively got up and walked toward one of a small fairly grotesque looking creature standing by the classic image of a witches tree. The picture was frozen mid-step and she could literally see the poor thing cursing whatever magic had stuck his foot half a foot from the ground. She laughed, "So what are they? Like portals or something that lead to each character?" Matthew had moved behind her so when she turned around she bumped into him.

"Precisely. Its funny that you should pick that picture to look at though." He smiled, "Oh yes you're definetly going to have to meet Hogor. He's a dwarf you know. One of Di's friends and I'm positive he'll just adore you." Kaylee stepped back in order to meet Matthew's gaze.

"M-meet?! You mean you're going to... to... take me through..:" She
pointed at the picture lost for words.

"Through the gateway? No, not yet anyway. You don't believe enough yet." He was laughing at her, "nah we'll have to get there the old fashioned way." Kaylee's eyes widened.

"You do mean walking don't you?" Her voice was shaking agian.

"What? No of course not, that would take forever!"

"Then... w-what... I mean how...?" He grinned. Kaylee's face went white and Di fell off the bedpost laughing at the sight.

"What do you mean you can fly?" She asked incrediously

Kaylee was being marched out toward the forest she had seen earlier. The magic eminating from it now was almost overwhelming, almost like it knew someone's life was shortly going to be changed. Whether in a good way or not Kaylee still hadn't decided yet.

"Jeez, Kaylee, loosen up a bit. Your shoulder sucks as a seat when you're this tense..." Di complained from her perch on Kaylee's right shoulder. Matthew let out a bark of laughter and stopping just at the edge of the forest turned her to face him.

"Its really quite simple Kaylee. I. Can. Fly."

"But, how?"

"Because i believe i can. And so can you if you want to."

"That's rediculous. You can't do something just because you believe you
can."

"Why not?"

"Because it... Because... It just doesn't work that way okay?!"

"Says who? Have you ever tried it?"

"No... I can't"

"Why?"

"Because it would mean that everything I ever thought I knew was wrong..."

"So? Come on Kaylee.... Believe. You're going to be okay Kaylee. It really isn't that bad." Kaylee glared.

"Not that bad?! I can't even stand flying in an airplane, let alone on my own with nothing supporting me!" Matthew winced at the shrill tone in her voice.

"You won't be flying on your own. I'm not stupid enough to have you attempt it on your own the very first time. I'll be supporting you and I won't let go of you for even a second okay?" Kaylee looked up into his eyes, and nodded.

They walked for a bit in the forest before coming to a strange clearing. It almost looked man-made except there were 7 almost identical trees placed equidistant from eachother around the edge of it. The medow in the center was completely devoid of flowers but a small clump of red and white mushrooms sat at the base of each tree. Matthew walked confidently to the middle of the clearing and looking back at Kaylee, who had frozen at the edge of it, smirked.

"Are you coming?" He asked, his eyes challenging her. "Or are you to scared?" And there he crossed the line Kaylee had done many stupid things in her life; snuck out of her house to stay the night at Brittany's, stuck a 'secret' I love you note in a jock's locker in middle school, and many things worse. But the thing that always sucked her into doing whatever wreckless thing Lindsey had thought up for her was the idea that she was too scared to do it. So, sucking in a breath, she indignantly walked over to Matthew. He laughed, shaking his head at her bravado. "You're going to need to hold on to me." She tilted her head to the side skeptically. And rolling his eyes Matthew grabbed her arms and wrapped them around his shoulders, wrapped his own around her waist and waited. Kaylee was staring up into his laughing eyes, smirking.

"So when do we lift off superman? Or was this just an excuse to cuddle?" He laughed.

"What do you mean when do we lift off? Look down." Puzzled Kaylee glanced down, and saw tree tops.

She was instantly wrapped so tightly around Matthew that he almost couldn't breathe, her face was buried so deep into his neck and shoulder that he felt rather than heard her muttering 'This isn't happening... I don't like heights..." over and over again. He laughed and squeezing her slightly, said,

"Don't worry Kaylee, its a short flight." She whimpered.

They touched down in the middle of another clearing, this one slightly smaller than the last.
