Hi everyone! One of the first books I will talk about is prehaps one of my favorites since about fifth grade. It is called The Blue Sword, by Robin McKinley. What I love about this novel is that no matter how many times you read it, you get new perspectives, feelings, observations, and thoughts from and about the characters. The plot revolves around a young woman named Harry, who is exiled to a foreign desert land. She catches the attention of Corlath, the Hill King, who rules a nomadic, horse-orientated people. She must learn to cope with learning new skills like sword-fighting, horsemanship, a new language, and a new culture. Her biggest challenge lies in discovering how to ue her latent mental abilities called kelar, which used to have the power to heal, but now only kills or destroys, causing mental pain to the wielder. She also is gifted with a magic sword called Gonduran, which only a woman can safely wield. All in all, this book is a good read for those who like character development, vivid scenery, exotic cultures, adventure, action, and a hint of romance. All of these blend together to make one good read.
