it's almost spring here - finally! the grass is visible in the backyard, the temps are hovering around 40 degrees, the days are getting longer, that means it's time to start planning the gardens. i have two to plan this year. we want to put in some (slightly) raised planting areas in the backyard for vegetables and flowers, that'll be the 'community garden' for the household. the other one will be my private garden in the sky. biggrin my apartment has a 6'x15' balcony in the back and i'm planning to fill the space up with potted annuals. i'm going to build a tiered planter box to hold several trays of flowers. i'm also going to get a small table and chairs for sitting out there, and also a small chiminea and a barbecue grill. i'm also planning to hang a hummingbird feeder and some hanging plants. it should be awesome when i'm done.
i've also been planning a party for our housewarming. the date i picked is june 1st, 2 months from now - so we should have plenty of time to get it all together by then. i hope. i gave my friends the heads up about my target date so they can get their place together in time for the party. they both have full time jobs so they still had a room full of unpacked boxes 3 months after moving in. meanwhile my place looks like i've been here for years, lol. since mike finally tackled the room of doom i figured they might be ready to invite people over and show the place off soon. i also think the weather ought to be pleasant by then. it'll be exactly six months after we moved in. the plan for now is to have the party start at 2pm-ish and go till 6pm for all the non-smokers/drinkers, elderly relatives and people with little kids. we'll probably have some potato salad and burgers and brats, cookies, chips, soda, coffee....you know. feed people and show them the new house, socialize. after six the rowdies will show up, the captain will turn off the no smoking sign and we'll break out the spirits and party with the hip crowd till late in the evening. i probably won't be around much that day. wink
mike and his sweetie also finally set a date for their wedding. it'll be august ninth - one week after my sweeties birthday (they met for the first time at his party). they asked me to take pictures at their wedding, which i am very nervous about. i'm scared they might not come out well and it's not like you can go back and do it over later. they both say they like the pictures i take and they're confident in my abilities so i've accepted the challenge and promised to do my best. *ohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseee let them come out good*
so that's what i did this weekend, hammered out garden and party plans. fun, eh?
