Rat Rants
the meaning of life.
we are weird. i mean... we've got a society that sort of contradicts our strangely early hormone activation. teen pregnancy is only a problem because it's unacceptable in the society humans have built, but nature made people capable of reproduction early to ensure survival of the species. because... We weren't supposed to live this long, were we? just until 18 or so. that's sad. the brain isn't even fully developed by 18. but if we take that into account, it means that people our age must have been caring for offspring already (since, you know, the species survived despite short life expectancy) which contradicts what my mom said about teens not being able to care for their babies. but then again... that's only in our society. so it all comes back to why our society is built around long life spans.
why do people want to live longer? to have more fun? to do more good in the world? when we bring back the fact that the main purpose of life is to ensure the survival of the species, there ain't much point... >.> not that there's much point in trying to ensure the survival of the species, either. what's it all add up to in the end, anyway?
so, now that we've established that there's no reason for either the survival of the species OR having a long and fruitful life, we'll just go back to what we were talking about earlier. human society
perhaps the brain wishes to live longer because of some selfish instinct within itself. so it could have time to fully develop and whatnot. or... mebbe it has something to do with the way elder hominids had more experience and suchnot? anyway, our society is ruled by the brain (or perhaps the heart, since brains don't seem to come into play much here... >.> ) and not some deeper sexual instinct that lies within us. why is it unacceptable in society to allude to sex and stuff? not that I'm condoning orgiastic practices or anything... >.>
perhaps nature knows we're overpopulating the world? perhaps WE know, our governtment knows, and they're trying to stop it without outright Among The Hidden-style bans?
if people were less selfish, we could actually get stuff done with sheer weight of numbers. or if cockroaches stopped global warming. that would be cool, yah.

well, actually, teen pregnancy's also bad b/c the hips aren't fully widened out yet in order to bear the weight of a child, so it's kinda straining the body... and the victorian ppl who made ppl give birth at age 12 were just kinda cruel, i think.
