some of you may or may not know that i live in saint paul, minnesota which is currently hosting the republican national convention. they have been planning here for the past month or two and getting out crews of volunteers to clean up any litter, set up media tents and security fences. they were also expecting protesters and in the nights leading up to the convention the police raided several houses and halls looking for the people planning to cause trouble. an anarchist group had publicly planned to come and disrupt the convention.

so today during what was supposed to be a peaceful march against the war and various other government wrongs, turned into chaos and random vandalism. nearly 300 people were arrested today.

there is good news though: bush/cheney canceled their visit (they ALWAYS f*ck up traffic when they come here), schwartzeneger isn't coming because of budget problems in CA. and a bunch of southern state governors aren't showing up. all because of hurricane gustav.

especially good news is that the daily show is in town. biggrin i secretly hope i'll run into samantha bee in the local head shop. biggrin or asif mandvi and john oliver! that'd be awesome. biggrin

anyway, i hope the rest of the week is a bit more uneventful after todays crap.
