Constant Memory -- For awhile I sat there with Doom and called to the night. Forage soon showed up to congratulate me, but my eyes scanned for another figure. The alpha female, I now was on high guard for her. She could present some problem, another femme giving birth in her land; it was like stepping on the claws of a bear. Dangerous.
My keen eyes caught the movement of something in the low light and I almost growled. Doom and Forage must’ve felt my sudden change in mood and laughed as Daisy stepped closer and into the slight clearing. Her tail was wagging none stop as my friend came and nuzzled my neck gently.
“So is it a boy or a girl?”
Daisy giggled as she sat back on the ground, letting out a yawn showing she just woke from a nap.
“A little boy”
I felt Doom’s eyes on me again and I turned to look back at him, I was feeling happier than I had in a long time. But soon a sound reached my mothering ears, it was whining, from my little one back in the den. With a mix of sadness and worry I pulled my ears back to my skull, looking to my dear friends. Daisy chuckled and Forage gave a nod looking to Doom. The two stood and left doom with me, if blush could be seen beneath my blonde fur, my face would be reddening.
The male came as close as he could to my side, our fur brushing as he licked my face. I smiled and pressed my head beneath his strong muzzle, sighed happily. It was easy to be around Doom...
“I have to go to him”
I spoke gently and pulled away from looking over his red fur happily. He nodded like the two had before and stood up. He didn’t have to say he’d be back, I just knew it and it warmed my insides. As he walked away the pup began whining loud and I had to go, it was tearing my heart to not be with the little thing.
As I moved slowly back down the den I wondered about names. It needed to be strong, it needed meaning. But what could it be, this pup was to be a hero, it absolutely had to be a good one. Shaking my head I figured I could think of it another time when the pup wasn’t in need of me, so I curled tightly to the little one and he began suckling.
I laid my head on the soft ground, sharing my warmth with my young as it continued to feed. I let out a huff, more in happiness than anything. I closed my light grey eyes and fell asleep in the heart of the ground, listening to the sounds of my own and dreamed.
It was so cold…I was shivering and alone. There was an odd light that grew around the ground; it was falling from the moon that hung above. I sighed and saw the warmth of my breath before my light eyes. It seemed surreal as I laid there in the night. I set my head upon my paws and let my eyelids fall, slowly drifting to sleep. But some sharp pain broke my peace and then something tugged me by my tail. I yelped as my eyes tore open and again, I was pulled backwards. I could feel fangs and my head spun to look at what was attacking me. It was a very light female that was growling something fierce. I returned the growl and pushed up on my paws, lunging at her as she still pulled me. I whined as it felt like I was about to loose my tail. Luckily she dropped it; facing her now I jumped and grabbed the scruff of her neck. I shook my head as I felt her claws rip into my side, I whined and bit down harder, tasting blood. But I heard another growl and soon word as the femme still dug into my side.
“I’ll kill you if you don’t leave!!”
She shouted, I knew that voice and let go. I back stepped getting a full view of the large and full coated female. She huffed as I continued back stepping; it was the alpha female…the one that was sworn to the male that had just courted me. Panic filled me and I twisted, I needed to find him…I needed to find Decker.
My paws flew over the ground and I lifted my head to let a howl. I knew the female would hear it and she would soon follow. But something within me told me I needed to leave, but I wasn’t without Decker knowing. I heard his return howl and altered my course, heading for him.
I was panting by the time I reached the alpha male. His eyes showed his deep concern and it pained my heart.
“What’s happened?”
He asked in a strong voice as he looked over my bloody body, I didn’t reply immediately, I was just about to tell him that his own female attacked me.
“It’s Shavirn, she…”
I didn’t have to say more and he came and nuzzled my side, the side that didn’t have wounds. He sighed as he looked up to the sky; I thought he was going to cry.
“I have to leave deck…I can’t…it’s not safe for the pups”
I wasn’t even sure I had them within me, but something told me there was. I needed out of here and Decker seemed to understand, he lifted his head and howled to his pack and warning to his mate. I watched his throat vibrate as the howl slowly died. My ears were pinned to my skull as I looked around nervously. They would take too long; Shavirn would be here any second. I stood and looked at Decker’s sad face.
“Goodbye…”
I whispered and his eyes fell to the ground.
“I’ll miss you…stay safe”
He spoke in return and I waited no longer, running, and running…
I woke up suddenly; my dream had been of that night when I left my first ‘pack’. I could feel my eyes welling with sadness as I squeezed them shut. Shifting my body closer to my pup comforted me slightly as memories flooded my head. I hadn’t wanted to leave and now I knew who Doom reminded of…Decker.
