Christmas was just as festive as ever at Tina's house. This year, there were no presents other than ones given to them by friends of their family. There was just lots of time spent together. And for once, no fighting took place. It could be due to the time of year, or could be because Zee was still on her mellow trip.
After the New Year was hit, Zee decided to take off for awhile, leaving poor Onima to deal with Zapook. The last few days, in fact, Onima has been ducking in and out of rooms to avoid being a subject to Zapook's experiments. She was still a bit afraid of Ekone, but has been showing more and more interest each time he appeared.
Lemme sum this up the easy way.
With the holidays over, everything's been back to normal, only minus a once ravenous cat girl. Tina's been about her normal ways, while Ekone's been following her since he's got a bit of an obsession problem. Meanwhile, Onima's been following him as a source of protection, even though he feels as though he doesn't need to anymore with Zee gone. Finally, Zapook's been following her around Onima to prove Ekone wrong.
This leaves us at the quiet little scene of Tina and Onima sitting next to each other on the balcony.
"So you don't remember where you come from?"
"I remember," Onima nodded, "Just don't wanna talk about it."
"Oh do tell. If you keep this mysterious act up for too long, it will only hurt you in the end, sweetie."
"Do I have to? I mean...I'm already seen as the dim-witted space case that dropped out of no where..." Onima muttered, looking down sadly.
Tina lightly patted her back and smiled, "Oh no, hun! Why would you say that?"
"Just a guess...after you and Zapook tried to feed me to your sister..."
"Oh..." Tina stopped, pulling her hand away, "You caught on to that, didn't you?"
"I may be care free, but I'm not stupid..."
"Well...I am truly sorry about that...It was more of Zapook's idea...I am not really opposed to Zee becoming more domestic, in all honesty."
"I figured that's how she always is! I like her that way! I can't see her as some killer..."
"Well...I regret saying this myself, but it is quite true."
Onima gave a shake of her head, and blurted out, "No way is Zee like those monsters!"
There was a long pause before Tina turned toward Onima and questioned, "What monsters, sweetie?"
Onima stared up at her, releasing what she had said to Tina, then buried her face in her hands. "My parents...Two girls...They were covered in fur like you and Zee..."
"They were cats?"
"They were foxes."
"Oh...I am so sorry. Continue."
"I used to live with my mom and dad in a little cabin. My dad loved magic...and used to show me some of his spells...My mom...She liked flowers...she was a florist... One night..I was like...I don't know. I was young... I was also in bed...Woke up to a lot of noise. It was like an hour after mom had put me to bed. I went to my parents bed room...They weren't there...so I went to the kitchen...I saw these two foxes laid out in front out our fire place on the way there...their fur...it was stained red on their hands and mouths...I tried to run and find my parents...but I couldn't find them anywhere...When I turned..All I saw was those two foxes run straight toward me..."
"...And Then...?" Tina said, eyes wide from the story.
"I can't remember. I blacked out...Though I remember this searing pain in my neck...I woke up in the arms of one of them though...I never saw my family, and just tagged along with those foxes...They ..for some reason...took care of me..."
"That...Oh my..." Tina spoke softly, putting the pieces together in her head.
"You don't have to hold it in. I know what they did to my parents. Just don't know why they wanted to take care of me after. I didn't stay with them for too long. I ran away after a year...I mean..I thank them for taking care of me, but.."
"You can not forgive them for what was done..."
"Exactly. I mean...I feel like I shouldn't be too mad though. It is natural...right?"
"Well...I guess that depends on the person..."
"But I know Zee's not like that...I just know it..."
Not much was said after that. Tina was too afraid of hurting Onima. A little later in the day, Zapook was in the middle of a conversation with Tina about leaving poor Onima alone. Down the hall, the door to the washroom opened, steam pouring out of the doorway. As Onima stepped out of the doorway, just a towel covering her body, the front door slammed shut, and a pit of panting was heard down the hall. Onima's curiosity made her walk toward the front room, only to be met in the hall by Zee, who was walking on all four, panting.
"Tina....where...."
"Tina? Oh. I think she's talking to Zapook in her lab."
"...Dinner..." Zee muttered, looking back toward the kitchen.
"Oh! Tina said she'd be late getting dinner on the table. I don't think she knew you'd be home today. Where were you for three days anyway?"
Zee only looked toward Onima, and grinned evilly as she got herself upright. "Food..."
"Didn't you hear me? There's no food yet. You have to...wait until..." Onima trailed off as she stared Zee in the eyes, and even began to shake slightly, "Um..Zee...Please stop that...you're making me nervous..."
Zee's paced quickened, and Onima's ears dropped to the sides of her head, "Come on, hun, this isn't you...You wouldn't dare..."
Without a word more, Zee crouched down into a pouncing position, which caused Onima to turn and run, screaming as the two of them tore through the house. Slipping over her own wet feet, she stumbled into the doorway of her own guest room. Just as Zee was in mid pounce she was tackled to the side by Ekone.
Onima was just swept up in the moment, clinging to her towel, a huge smile on her face as she stammered to her feet. The site of the naga attempting to wrestle Zee away was enough to keep her flustered...for about 10 seconds, which is all the time Zee needed to throw Ekone to the side. He tried to right himself as fast as he could, but only got back up in time to Zee tackle Onima into the room. As he got to the doorway, the door itself slammed shut and locked.
He couldn't do anything about it. As his shoulder rammed into the door over and over again, Onima's screams faded, and were quickly replaced by the sounds of shattering glass. Ekone quickly slithered out of the house and around to where Onima's now broken window was. After a quick look around with for any signs of Onima or Zee, he peered into the room and only saw Onima's towel laying in the middle of her floor.
Ekone, Tina, Zapook, Aussa, Wolven and Whiplash searched all over the house.
Nothing.
That is...until night set in. Zee walked in as if nothing had happened, a slightly pudge barely hidden under her shirt. Whiplash followed Zee in, using his tail to tap the doors of anyone invovled in the search party that Zee happened to pass. Zapook was the first to see Zee.
As one would expect, Zapook was calm, delicate, and handled the situation as best as she possibly could.
"WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU!? The girl stays here after gods know what happened to her, and you kill her!?"
"I have urges damn it! Who's bright idea was it to keep a rabbit in the house anyway!? You know how I get!"
"Yeah! Normally! No one expected you to do a complete one eighty like that!"
Tina cleared her throat, "Technically, we did expect this to happen....We were just under the illusion that the entire situation was under our control..."
"Well I guess it wasn't, now was it!?" Zapook snapped, before turning and kicking a nearby wall.
Ekone was in the nearest corner silently watching and doing his best to hold back the tears. Zee and Zapook continued to fight a bit, with Tina and Ekone watching. Zee was defending her instincts and Zapook...let's just say she's fighting for something she can't save at this point. Or should one say...'someone' she can't save.
While they bickered, Tina went over to comfort Ekone with a simple hug.
All Ekone could say was this.
"I'm sorry, Tina...I promised you I'd protect her...and not only did I let you down...I let her down as well..."
