The training grounds looked lonely at this time of the day even though it was still early there was no one around except Master O. who was waiting patiently in the middle of the arena. As we entered the echoes of Hikaru’s laughter could be heard everywhere like it was a sign that the arena thought the same thing about me. The laughter disappeared as soon as my brother saw Master O. his face was serious and was clearly irritated.
“You are late!”- He said in a loud commanding voice, he is in no mood for our usual behavior.
As we approached him I started to apologize. “I’m sorry Master O. I forgot to remind Hikaru yesterday about our training session….”- I got cut off by Hikaru’s comment.
“You don’t have to lie for me. Master the real reason we are late is because I went to the blacksmith’s shop looking for a sword and some armor for when we join the……”
“Enough” – His loud voice roared. “I have told you many times that you are not going to join the guard.”
“But why not Master?” – I spoke while Hikaru looked at the ground. “Our skills are the highest this town has had in years why can’t we join the guard?”
“I didn’t train you both to be guard dogs.”- His loud voice filled the arena. ”That’s the reason.”
“Why did you train us then?” – Hikaru said still looking at the ground.
I looked at our master puzzled hoping for an answer as to why he was so against the idea of us joining the guard. At that moment Andrew McCloud an old friend of Master O. walked out of the shadows near the arena’s second entrance. Hikaru and I looked puzzled as to why he was there and what was this meeting about.
“Master McCloud I didn’t see you come in” -I said still looking at my master.
“Hello Zack, hello Hikaru wow you two have certainly grown since the last time I saw you.”
“Hmph! Their bodies may have grown but they are still children when it comes to brains.”- Both of us looked at the ground maybe that was the reason why Master O. didn’t want us to join the guard.
“I see that you still haven’t changed O. always so strict”-He said letting a huge bag on the ground creating a small dust cloud when it landed.
“Never mind that did you get what I asked?” –Master O. looked at McCloud he in turn answered him grabbing the bag again. “I got it right here.”
