Short Course State Swim Meet '09
I went to our State Swim Meet this weekend. I'm home before the rest of my teammates because the they all had to come back to finals in the evening to swim again and the only thing I swam on Sunday was the 1650yds and the mile is a timed final. That means I only have to swim it once. That's a good thing, becaue swimming the mile twice would be awful.

When I say that I "only" had to swim the mile, I really meant that it was my only event. The nile is not something that can be "only"ed away. Other people swimm 100's and 200's. A 1650 is a lot more. The only reason I appear to do well in distance free events is because no one else wants to swim those events because they're so hard and exhausting.

I dropped about five seconds in my mile. Afterwards, I told the coaches that I thought our team was supposed to be known for its distance swimmers, but I was the only one from our team who swam the mile. (Eleven people swam the 1000, me included, duh) One said that maybe they should go back to the old days where they just made everyone swim the mile. I didn't like this idea and said that that would be mean. He thought that it was becaue I didn't want to be responsible for making everyone swim the mile (they would all hate me) but it was actually because if everyone swam the mile, I wouldn't be able to place. There's a bunch of people who would beat my in the mile and other distance events if they only swam it.

Other events. I dropped in the 1650fr, 1000fr, 500fr, 200br, 100br, and the 200IM. I only added about a second in my 400IM. Six out of seven=great. Except in finals of the 200 Breaststroke, I added a bunch of time. But since I dropped time in prelims, I get to say that I dropped time in that event since the prelim times are official times as well.

Our team tapered for this meet, which, to all you non-swimmers, means that we started doing less-exhausting sprint practices about two weeks before the meet. That means I am used to easy practices right now, but when I go to practice on Monday, it's going to feel awful because we won't be tapering any more. Bright side, at least now I have more free weekends until long course starts up.
