“Seji, your sweetheart is here!” Saruko yelled out as she pranced around on Seji’s bed. Seji quickly arose from his sleepy domain. “Just kidding!” Saruko laughed. “She’s on her way though!” she yelled out as she ran back down the hall.
“Oki, wake Shayne up! Please?” Saruko asked from the kitchen. Oki of which had replied with an affirmative grunt.
After everyone got up, they met up in the kitchen for breakfast and finished quickly.
Saruko then heard Lori’s car pull in the drive way then grabbed her things and blasted through the door. “Hi Lori!” Saruko greeted with a big smile. Everyone else trailing behind gloomily.
At the party~~~~~~~<3 “ Oh, hey!” You guys are here! And just in time too, the food is ready.” a tall girl with very short light-brown hair that barely reached halfway down her neck, and fairly tanned skin had approached, pointing around back of the house.
As the group walked around to the back, they found a twister mat spread on the grass under a worn-black tent next to a long table topped with many appetizing delectable’s. A couple girls were playing twister when Oki and Seji became interested and joined in the next game. Lori and Saruko headed for the food and settled on the one and only round glass table in the corner of the yard. The two girl’s had a nice view of Oki and Seji’s game and laughed at the many hilarious position’s that the two boys had gotten themselves into. It was so funny, Saruko had to take pictures with her phone.
Umi brought the birthday cake herself and everyone sang happy birthday to Umi and immediately dug in. When the cake fest was finished, majority of the young teens gathered in the garage to talk or participate in some dance video games.
Although like most stereotypical teenager party, they became bored and resorted to Truth or Dare for fun. And not the silly ones where it is like “I dare you to not do your homework for a week” but more so like “I dare you to give so-and-so a lap dance” kind.
For a few minutes, Saruko stuck around. Laughing and smiling sheepishly. Are these people really my friends? Saruko questioned herself. When it got as far as making out with random people, swashing each other’s spit to another, Saruko had enough with the immature, desperate, peer-pressure-weak, and not to mention foolish young teens. The worse part was that there were two others who were older than Saruko and that was a senior girl and… Oki.
As Saruko began to walk away, she was passing a teen who thought aloud about joining. Saruko stopped and muttered loud enough for the young girl to hear, “Immature, desperate… not to mention weak!” she said in a rather cold tone. Then walked out of the room.
Saruko sat silently, rethinking her feelings for Oki. Beginning to bore of it, she walked into the house heading for Umi’s room to go on the computer. Only to find out the make-out fest moved to that room. The senior girl looked up with a disturbed expression and gave Saruko a dirty look. “Look, if you’re gonna stay in, fine. If not, then get out and shut the door.” she said coldly. Saruko reacted quickly by getting out and shutting the door. Geez! She scolded me as if I came in five times before! Saruko thought. She looked back at the door disappointed, and then walked out, running into Lori at the door to the backyard.
“Saruko! I was looking for you!” Lori exclaimed. “Well, my Mom should be here any minute now.” She alerted Saruko.
“Oh… okay.” Saruko replied in a low tone. Lori looked into Saruko’s eyes. “Are you okay? Did something happen?” she had asked.
Saruko looked away. “Nah, I’m okay. Just extremely bored.” Saruko hid.
“Oh okay…” Lori left her alone.
Saruko sat in front of the garage waiting for Lori’s Mom. Then Umi joined her. “You alright? You look kinda sad…” she asked.
Saruko buried her face in her knees. “Yeah… I-I’m okay…” Saruko said her voice breaking.
“Oh…” Umi replied. “Look, I’m sorry about earlier. Just didn’t want my Mom seeing what was happening.” She explained. “I hop--”
“Saruko, you okay?” Oki cut in. Taking a seat next to Saruko. Wonderful… Saruko buried her face into her knees feeling tears well up in her eyes.
“Listen, if it’s something I did, I’m sorry.” Oki said. Idiot! Saruko frowned. You’re just saying that. You don’t know what’s going on!
“You stupid little kids. What did you do to Saruko?!” a deep voice boomed.
Saruko had enough and ran off down the street. Umi and Oki looked up seeing Saruko run past Kuroshi.
Kuroshi frowned. “It would be wise to keep away from me.” He warned. Then quickly turned around and ran after Saruko.
Kuroshi caught up in no time and grabbed at Saruko’s arm. “Saruko! Stop!” he pleaded.
“NO! Leave me alone!” Saruko insisted to tug away.
“You know you’re not gonna get out of my grip! I’m not letting you run off at night by yourself!” Kuroshi told her.
“Just let go!” Saruko’s voice breaking. She dropped to the ground and began to sob. Kuroshi knelt down in front of her and pressed her head into his chest.
“Saruko… what did he do to you? I know very well that you don’t get hurt easily unless you dropped your guard around someone and right now, that someone is Oki.” Kuroshi spoke softly.
“He went weak and made out with probably all the girls there. Not to mention he has a girlfriend now…. He knows how I feel about him too…” Saruko said, her voice breaking through her hurting.
Kuroshi frowned. “I don’t mean to be a hard-a** but, what does that tell you?” he asked.
Saruko paused. “I don’t know…” she answered.
“You liar! You know as well as I do that he’s no good for you.” Kuroshi told her.
“…Yeah. I just… he is the only one that made me feel like that.” Saruko spilled.
“I’m sorry for what had happened… I’m here for you. Come to me when you need help. I got nothing better to do…” Kuroshi insisted. “Anyway, I should get you home… I think you may have missed your ride…” Kuroshi said. He then pulled Saruko onto his back, latched unto her legs to hold her up. Kuroshi began to run her home, not even phased by a girl being propped onto his back.
“Uwaah! Kuroshi! Aren’t I heavy? How’re you--OH MY GOSH!” Saruko screamed embarrassed. Blushing deeply enough to see through her dark skin.
“It’s okay! I do special training where I prop a boulder that weighs about two-hundred pounds. Really, you’re nothing!” Kuroshi said, a little confidence sparking up in his voice.
The two had finally arrived at the foot of Saruko’s doorsteps. Her three dogs at the door, wagging their tails and barking. “You, I’m staying over from now on to make sure you don’t do anything stupid…” Kuroshi appointed sternly. Saruko knew there was no way that she could make him even taking a second thought.
Saruko slept in a room downstairs, in which Kuroshi had shared with her. Saruko’s parents were fine with it. In fact, her parents and Kuroshi go back from before Saruko was born.
~---- <3 A little before Saruko was born, Kuroshi was a little boy in the neighborhood that had taken a liking to Saruko’s parents. And they to him. They decided to expand their family and thus, Saruko. The new face astounded Kuroshi.
“She will be the most beautiful princess ever. I can tell!” young Kuroshi had told the new happy parents. They smiled.
“You think so?” Saruko’s Dad asked.
Kuroshi scoffed as if the answer were obvious. “I know so, Uncle Rio!”
“Well in that case, can you promise us something, Ku-ku?” Rio put his hands on his wife’s shoulders and smiled at her. She returned the favor.
“Of course! Anything for you Uncle Rio and Aunty Haui!” Kuroshi said in a most exhilarated tone.
Rio smiled, “Promise us that you will protect Saruko. Can you do that?” he had asked Kuroshi, smiling sheepishly hoping that the young boy wouldn’t get in over his head.
Kuroshi smiled. His eyes widened with joy as if he had just received the best Christmas present ever. “I can do that! I’m the best at protecting. I’ll protect her with more than enough of what I got!” Kuroshi said, gleaming with pride and assurance. ~----<3
Saruko’s parents have known Kuroshi almost all his life. They trust him in even sleeping in the same room as her. Kuroshi had now often abandoned his house to stay at Saruko’s place. The parents always enjoyed having him over. They loved him almost like a son they never had.
Kuroshi walked out of the room to shower, Saruko remained in her room listening to the radio. The song “Realize” by Colbie Caillat was playing. As soon as Kuroshi had left the room, Saruko began to sing along.
Saruko, you have such a lovely singing voice. Kuroshi thought. Or rather, knew. I don’t know why you have to hide it. He smiled. He stood beside the open door listening to Saruko sing. After a while, Kuroshi put his hand to his chest. Above his heart. “Who knew that a promise of protection would make you feel in such a way?” Kuroshi whispered softly. He realized that Saruko would be wondering what was taking him so long so he walked to the bathroom and took a shower.
“I wonder what’s taking so long…?” Saruko wondered aloud. “I would’ve thought that he would not even leave me for five minutes alone.” Saruko chuckled. “Oh well. That guy needs time to himself. He had done more than enough for me.” Saruko said, trailing off into the world of dreams.
Kuroshi returned to the room, finding Saruko asleep. He shrugged and began taking the futon out from behind a small dresser but had knocked something over waking Saruko.
“Oh Saruko! I’m so sorry to disturb you. I didn’t mean to-- I’m sorry!” Kuroshi scrambled.
“It’s okay. Why don’t we just share the bed?” Saruko insisted, sleepily. “That old thing is over-used so it’s pretty much like sleeping on the floor already.”
“No, no. It’s fuh--” Kuroshi tried to insist but was cut off by Saruko. She didn’t stop talking, trying to get her point across.
“I just feel bad especially since you do more than enough for me. It’s the least I could do for you. Now, please come on the bed. At least for tonight.” Saruko persisted to have Kuroshi join her.
Kuroshi stood there frozen for a moment. Looking at Saruko’s dead-looking eyes to see if she’ll just slump back onto her pillow and go back to sleep. Seeing as that wasn’t going to happen, he gave in. “Fine.” Kuroshi snorted. He climbed into the bed with Saruko, trying to jerk a smile back.
“Thank you.” Saruko said. Kuroshi looked into her eyes, finding a sparkling twinkle of life. “Good night and sweet dreams.” she said. The volume of her voice trailed off as her eyes slowly began to close.
“Good night to you too Saruko. Sweet dreams.” Kuroshi said to her even though she had fallen asleep already. I love you…
