THE REQUIEM OF TAMAKI
New Beginnings

Two weeks passed. Everyday in my lonely cell I would think about Miyuki. I’ve never actually met the rebels before. In fact, I had no idea they still existed after being here for so long. As I glanced out the window, I heard my cell door opening. It was a man, tall and muscular. Followed by him were several men dressed in odd cloaks.

“Tamaki Misime?”, the man almost shouted in my ear.
“Yes?”

One of the men in a cloak stepped forward.

“You are accused of killing 7 men from the Execution Unit. Several eye witnesses claim to have seen you fire what appeared to be an arrow from this cell and killed the executioners during the exaction of a young girl. Is this correct?”

“It is”, I replied calmly.

“In that case, you are to be executed the day after tomorrow.”

And with that they all left. I was expecting to be killed because of what I did, but you’d think they’d say more than two whole sentences.

The day passed and tomorrow I was to be killed for my crime. I don’t understand why I wasn’t killed the same time my father and mother were though. Well, considering how everything turned out, I guess I lived a pretty good life, you know, except for the whole imprisonment part. As quick as a bird from Omeron, the day passed and it was night. The prison executioners would be coming in a few hours. I walked over to my cell-window, glancing at the full moon hovering in the sky and began to pray.

I released another seal I had placed in my cell and put on my father’s cloak. I knew that I would soon be joining him and whenever I am feeling depressed, his cloak sometimes can give me hope or courage. Nothing could really express how I was feeling. I wasn’t really scared, but I wasn’t too thrilled either. Death is a scary thing. No one really can comprehend it until it happens. How many people before me have had their lives taken for doing what was right? It’s hard to say. Right now so many thoughts are twirling around in my head because of the time limit.

I could suddenly hear the loud footsteps of the men who would be taking my life come down the hall. But right before they could reach my cell, I heard one of them yell, blades clash and then a brief silence. Even more footsteps were coming down the hall this time. What the hell just happened? A took a huge breath as my door was being opened. Before I even had the chance to turn around someone was hugging me.

I glanced up…
“MIYUKI!?!”

There she was. She seemed to change so much after two weeks. I couldn’t stop myself from shedding a small tear. It wasn’t because she came to rescue me, but instead just because I now knew that she was safe.
