Ed prepares himself to transmute them, but Al is shouting at him to stop. They're human! Envy replies, so what? Al tells Ed that he doesn't want to get his normal body back if he has to sacrifice so many lives to get it. Envy laughs, telling him that it thought they learned after trying to bring back their mother. Human Transmutation requires the lives of other humans to work. In order to live, one must take the life of another. All adults know that they need to a scrifice something to get something. When Ed became a State Alchemist, he entered the world of the Adults.
