Later that day I sat in my room on my round futon. I looked at my clock as it blinked seven thirty-four pm. I had forgotten about the note from earlier till my mind began to repeat the words ‘Wait till its safe to open’ again and again. Suddenly I felt it in my pocket and found the note. I looked into the hallway to find my mom already home with her door closed and my sisters yelling and screaming with laughter in their room. Closing my door, my fingers worked their way to un-wrapping the paper. To my surprise I found a half marble shaped pendant. Around the edges were pointed edges with a black, blank mirror on the flat side and on the round side were shapes and lines I didn’t recognize. My eyes blinked several times at the shiny, silver pendant as I realized it didn’t come with a chain, which led me to finding one instead. A gold chain with a silver pendant. I had no clue what it was but I placed the jewel in my small wooden jewelry box on my dresser and got ready for bed.
The next day I walked into my first period classroom to see Oz unhappy, but his face showed more of anger, frustration, and sadness “Oz, what’s wrong?” I asked sitting in my seat as I turned to look at him. Oz looked at me with solid red eyes “Its nothing. Don’t worry about it” he said with a hint of venom, I wasn’t going to take this any longer but something in his eyes was a warning not to ask., but I decided to ask later. Oz looked at my face and soon smiled like his old self “Alice. You’re a worry wort” but he stopped when I flicked his nose and laughed while Ms. H began her lesson.
All my classes went by fast and to my surprise the pale versions of my friends were the same as always. The only difference that made me sad was the fact that they were abit more popular.
Finally it was third period, aside from my M.I.L I had laid out some side noted as to whom to confront and who to suspect. Once I walked into the class I found Emily talking to someone who I didn’t bother to remember was. We made eye contact and she smiled with relief as if she knew I had seen the pendant without showing I to others. How could she tell I saw it?
I took my usual seat to find we had a sub. The sub looked at the whole class “Today I shall see fourth that you learn….” was what I heard the rest to me just sounded like Bla bla bla. My eyes began to wonder around the room, expecting to see everyone else not paying attention, to find Emily looking at me. She smiled a bright smile and for some reasons her eyes look terrified. I mean yea I’ve never been the type to tell what kind of emotions were showed in the eyes but clearly Emily was afraid aside from her happy-go-lucky mood.
I tried talking to her but she turned away as the teacher called “And you miss? How do you opinionate this subject?” I looked at him sheepishly “Uh…um” I tried to think of what to say but luck was on my side today. The bell rang and I let out a breath I barely realized I was holding for most of the last minute of class, I wanted to talk to Emily but when I looked at her I saw her leave, she looked like she was talking to someone. I rubbed my eyes and almost screamed as Emily’s shadow became a different figure. “Miss? Is something wrong?” I heard a voice say behind me. I turned around to look at the sub but he was at his desk “Sir….did you say something?” I asked in a shaky voice. The old man looked at me with dark eyes as he shook his head.
