I've finally got something I wanted for what seemed forever, a laser pointer. I had always wanted to try playing with a cat with one and now I can. My 1 year old cat Maneki** LOVES it. He chases it throughout the house and tries to climb walls and doors after it like he's a squirrel or something, haha. He goes in circles and watching him is like watching the washer machine...a big blur. My tuxedo cat Lily, who always hides unless she thinks you have food for her, will go after it a bit if my crazy Mekki isn't around being a holy terror! xd I have 2 old cats who are around 14 years old and both have arthritis, Simba and Gabby and they're siblings. Gabby, an American short hair tabby and calico, constantly wants to try to sniff it and eat it. when it moves too much for her she tries to bop it one and give it a what for! When she's sitting or standing and she sees it on her back foot she absolutely must back away and attack it with a meow. I've had Simba since he was two, he's a mackerel tabby American short hair and he used to be very rambunctious. When he got arthritis he didn't do much anymore. At first with the laser pointer he just looked at it then at my hand (Stupid cat does he WANT to go blind? xd ) and didn't seem to care for it. But I finally got him to go after it, and even run through my hallway! (Dude he like never runs unless he's in your way or is running away from Maneki... eek ) His paws move around frantically after the red bug with eyes wide and all alert. While he was playing he was moving around in circles because I had the pointer under him and around his back feet. His tail hit something sticking out of my box of fish stuff under the fish tank and he jumped a mile! xd

**(Mah-neck-ee) I know a lot of you people out there will see this and not know how to pronounce this. Maneki is an Asian term meaning 'lucky', such as the maneki nekos, you may have seen one on a counter of a Chinese restaurant, a cat with a coin in its paw. You can also look this up on the internet if you really want to know more or have a clearer description biggrin
~~~Now that you know what Maneki means, why did I name my cat lucky?? A guy was going around asking people if they wanted him, and happened to come across my mom when she was working her shift (11pm-7am) at Holiday Inn if they wanted or if they knew if anyone else may want a 7 toed cat who was around 4 months old. The guy had found him outside all alone, skin and bones. My mom had been searching for over a year for a special cat for my 16th birthday. Well half a year after my 16th birthday I finally got my special VERY belated present! I came home from school and immediately I asked why my bedroom door was shut until I noticed the little kitten face peeking out in the bottom corner. I looked at my mom and asked what it was (Pretty dumb question...but you know me "Oblivious to the Obvious"!! 3nodding ) and she told me it was a surprise. Only bad thing at first was a couple days later we found out he had tape worm .__.;; EEW! So yeah...we had to give all 4 of my cats tape worm tablets...it sucked. And when he slept with me...I didn't even know he was there...he weighed barely anything and you couldn't feel him when he was laying on you. But, now he weighs a lot...one year old and about 10 pounds and he's a long slinky-like cat and is almost as big as Simba...and Simba is a big bub, lol. Kinda makes me scared to know how huge he'll be when he's full grown.
Currently we do not know what breed of cat Maneki is, he has very thick short fur and is an ashy color with ticked fur with barely noticeable stripes like a tabby but more on the tail, face, and legs. He also has bright golden eyes with green around the pupil. We though Korat...but he doesn't have a long face or bright green eyes. We thought maybe Chartreuse but he's not quite as stocky. We think he may be Russian Blue, but we're still not sure. For all we know he could be all 3 or a couple or a mix with something else! xd
I really do think he is lucky, the last 3 years on the Friday of Memorial weekend I ended up in the hospital. First year was appendicitis and the 2 following years was kidney stones. Ever since I've had Maneki I haven't been in the hospital again, nothing serious happened the first Memorial weekend when I've had Maneki! -hugs him- I knew you were lucky heart It all works out, we saved him and he saved me!
Maneki knows tricks too. Hold a treat or some kind of food above him and say Mekki Mekki Up! and he'll stand on his haunches like a dog doing beg and say Stay! and he'll do so until given the treat. Longest he's stayed was 47 seconds. He'll sit, lay down, and speak when told if there's a reward. He fetches toy mice too but only ones that are realistic, meaning it has real rabbit fur. He refuses to play with fake ones. I'll throw the mouse out to the kitchen and he'll run after it, pick it up, and bring it back to me and drop it at my feet and meow until I throw it again. He is also a blanket hog, he will claw my blankets away for himself and sleep under everything.
