They left the place, and went to go check up on Jim. Jim was sleeping on a chair. Miki walked up to him, and placed a blanket on him. She looked at the halfway done outfit, and hung it on a rack. Joseph stood and watched the young girl take care of things for someone who wasn't even real family. He walked up towards Miki, and gave her a hug. "Am I family?"
She smiled. "Of course you are." He let her go, and she went on caring for Jim. She cleaned up the shop.
After she was done, they went back home. The grandma was waiting for Miki on the armchair near the fireplace. When Miki opened the door, her grandma ran up to her and gave her a hug. "My little girl's growing up." Miki smiled. "Grandma, we were onyl gone for a while. The grandma looked at Joseph and was surprised to see his new look.
"Who's he?" Miki laughed.
"It's Joseph!"
"Oh! My! You really changed him." They all laughed. Her grandma gave them both a hug, and they went off to bed.
He went and slept on the armchair. "Miki is part of my family now. But I wonder what'll happen when I leave..." He closed his eyes, and felt the warmth of the fire pressed on his cool face. He didn't sleep, but for once in his life, he wanted to.
