Skies of fire
I guess you could just say it was another ordinary day for Sabin Skyzer as he let his gunboat meander through the dark alleyways of the imperial city, then again, the council hired him to be an enforcer. It was his job to make sure that the bad parts of the city weren't so "bad'. but even with all the action it got boring. Unfortunately for Sabin, he didn't exactly have the means to fund his own ship so he got stuck with a rental.
He never really complained too much, it was a decent job that payed decently. He had a means to get off of the crowded walkways of the cities platforms and actually do some good. The most fun he probably had on his job was his kill counter. A small scrap of paper he kept on him and marked each time he sank a bandit. But he knew he only did it for the glory. Until.....
Chapter 1: The Reckoning
The sky was a glorious blue that day, and the streets were quiet yet for some reason, Sabin had a ominous feeling in his gut.
"Tabby!!!!!" he yelled. "What's the sit rep on that fuel transverter?"
"Hold yer horses! I'm still working on it!" she replied.
Tabby Windcaller was a young geomancer he happened across on a liberation mission in southern Wendigra. A band of rebel's happened upon her village and left no survivors. And if it wasn't for Sabin's intervention there really would have been no survivors. So ever since that day she has been his loyal mechanic/engineer/cook/bodyguard.
"You ok boss?" she asked as she came up the stairs from the engine room wiping the sweat and oil from her brow. "You seem kinda..... Distant. Have you been getting into the Port again?"
"I'm sober, I've just had a really bad feeling that something bad is going to happen today.... ya know?" he replied with an uncertainty in his voice. "It's probably nothing...."
And before he could finish, It began... First what sounded like thunder became a sea of flames painting the sky with a crimson ambiance that could shake the morale of even the most hardened warrior. And with it came "Them"......
Ok all, that's it for my first installment. I know it isn't much... but let me know what you think! if you like it, I'll keep writing. biggrin
