Kovu is the eldest son of Zira, the leader of the Jua Ilikauka clan. As a child, he wasn't familiar with the war between his clan and the Mwezi Baraka clan, spending a good number of years oblivious of it. It wasn't until he met another young neko, around his age, that the war was even mentioned. Neither child knew of the war, nor did they know they were from different clans. They became instant friends, and would have stayed friends if it wasn't for their parents. Zira snatched up her son before Kovu could promise to see his new friend again, and the two neko children were separated. The moment they reached home, Zira abused and tormented her son, telling him to never even speak nicely to their enemies, ones that he didn't know about. He couldn't understand why she hated the others so much, and was even more confused when her tune just...changed. She comforted him and put him to bed, promises of training trailing behind her. The moment he woke the next morning, Zira began all over again. Abusing him, insulting him, hardening his heart and making him feel nothing but hate... Many years later, Zira felt that her son was ready. Kovu had become as heartless as any creature could be, even having a 'job' as a serial killer, slowly destroying the Mwezi Baraka clan. Her plan was not yet complete, but she could put finally it into motion. She sent Kovu to find the child of the other clan's leader, the one that he had befriended all those years ago. It was simple; Befriend the other again, make them feel safe with Kovu. Gain their trust, and the trust of the Mwezi Baraka leader. Then destroy them both. Kill them, and destroy the entire clan. It was a simple plan, and one that Kovu would carry through with without fail. Or at least that was what they thought. When Kovu found his old friend, he simply put on the act as being the same as before. But for them....It was no act. His old friend was the exact same as they were before. Spending day after day with them, Kovu began to doubt Zira's plan. He never did understand why the Jua Ilikauka and the Mwezi Baraka clans hated each other. And it really didn't help that old feelings were being stirred once again...
