It really depends on what I want to draw ... for simple line drawings, I prefer a mechanical pencil. I have this ancient Pentel USA mechanical pencil that is probably older than me--it was my dad's, and it's been around for as long as I can remember. I can't even recall if it uses .5 or .7 graphites. sweatdrop

If I can't get ahold of a mechanical pencil, for detail drawings I'll try for a HB; I like my drawing pencils to be sharp and stay sharp.

For shaded drawings, an old fashioned #2 is what I do most of the shading with after the initial lining with the HB or Mech.

If the drawing is getting colored, I usually try to get a scan of the grayscale version before moving on with colored pencils. While coloring, I tend to try and use black colored pencils to get proper shading in places, because graphite tends to be shiny gray.

I also doodle in ballpoint pen, felt-tip pin, and gel pen. After years of searching on my own and failing, my sister finally found me a yellow ballpoint ink pen. I try not to do much serious work in any sort of pen though, because most colored ballpoints get "blobby," felt-tips bleed, and gels tend to jam.

Sharpies are a lot of fun for drawing. I have a set of about two-dozen sharpies that I bought specifically for drawing on white styrofoam cups, because I had regular access to them and it was fun. I need to repurpose them for another sort of use, because I don't use white styrofoam anymore... whee But markers of any short tend to bleed, much like felt tips. So my use of them is kind of limited. That and using markers on plain paper is really frustrating for me, because I build up color in layers, and markers tend to get the paper too wet, tend to pull up the grain, and overall tend to frustrate me. >.<

Edit: Some of my drawings are still up on my Deviantart; there are a few more in the gallery, and some of my marker drawings (crayola markers, highlighters, whatever I could find). I was pretty prolific when I was at the video store. whee

After reading your weapon of choice, something I just remembered...I think for me it comes down to my mood. lol. Some days are pencil days, while other days pen or sharpie.

Hmm, well I have more than one weapon of choice, most sketches I leave to just a regular sharpened pencil. Overall though, most of my artwork is either traditional mediums, mostly markers, or digital, in which case my weapon of choice there would be my wacom tablet and Photoshop. :3 Can I mention secondary weapons? xD If so, traditionally that would be pen and ink and watercolors and digitally that would be vectors on Illustrator.

Tablet pen. I've completely departed from traditional media lately. Love the freedom that it provides. Scribbles are done with a fine ballpoint, exclusively on uni notes of course.

Oh man, Illustrator rocks. I used to freak people out with the stuff I'd pull off with the gradient mesh tool. Kind of taught myself how to use it on my own one day while goofing off, and ended up teaching half the rest of my graphic design class how to use it. xd

But I don't have access to it anymore, that was like, in 2000. I'm sure the newer editions must rock even harder.

I did some things with the Pen Tool in Photoshop, and I've done some half-assed crap in Flash, but their vectorizing just isn't quite up to Illustrator standards.

Of course the best is when you make something in Illustrator and then put it into Photoshop. I did the "Tentacles XXX'ing" sign when I had a trial version of Illustrator a couple years back, and then beat it up in Photoshop when I did my profile. The simple vectoring of the sign was great, but it was better to put it into a context.

I don't know why, but I can not get use to using a tablet. crying

Recently I've only been using Adobe Photoshop.
But I wanna try out Adobe Illustrator and others ... maybe it's time for me to invest a little.

I normally use my tablet when I can help it, but I think I do my best work with a ballpoint pen. sweatdrop
