But one day she found a sailor who'd survived, and hid him from her sisters, nursed him back to health. However, her sisters found out, and banished her from their isle, beseeching their father Achelous to wipe her mind clean. When she woke on the sands of Ithica, all she remembered was her name. She wandered alone for hundreds of years, eventually leaving Greece to make a life for herself in the new world.
