Early in the morning, the soon-to-be Spring weather greeted the morning birds with warmth. And it was a seemingly beautiful day. A perfect day for a happy send-off for those who had died.

Eric Kaplan stood before his mother's grave. He walked forward, knelt down, and placed four lilies on the grave. Eric stood up and wiped the dirt from his work pants.

A beautiful day, and yet I still have work Eric thought. "I wish I could stay longer, but I have the papers you left behind to finish." he bid his mother's grave goodbye, and walked back to his black Pontiac, which his father had 'handed down to him'.

With both of his parents gone, Eric had to take care of the house and all of their personal items. But what would he do about the things in the attic? Sell them? Of course, that's the best thing to do. They always said that they only had junk up there. He had already spent the last four years dealing with the less difficult items in the main parts of the house, but now he only had the attic and the basement.

I guess my first mission is to clear up the attic, Eric thought, looking into the rear view mirror and back at the cemetery's sign. It read "Belfry Cemetery" plainly in rusted gold plates. Then I'll decide what to keep and what to sell.

Backing up into the driveway, Eric sighed, aggravated with all of this. "Why does a single twenty-three year old man have to deal with all of this? I mean, I could have spent my 19th birthday with some friends, if I had any, instead of making arrangements for my parent's graves!" he banged his head against the steering wheel, only getting a not-so-surprising honk.
