I ran through the hallway breathing hard. She was big, mean and scary. Her name was Jan Di, the toughest and most popular person at school. With her was Johnny Anderson, the most handsome guy at school with blue eyes, blonde-brown hair, sadly he was Jan Di’s boyfriend. On the other hand me, Miranda Jones, the new girl, hazel eyes, blonde brown hair, and scared! Scared of Jan Di. I was nothing but a loser. I only had Derek, my best and only friend. He was the one who always stood up for me.

“Where did that little mouse go?” Jan Di sneered. “Let’s go now Jan Di, the wimp probably got scared and ran home!” Johnny laughed. As soon as they left I let out a sigh of relief. I wondered when all of this would end. I went to my locker and took my bag out, then from behind me I heard Derek. “Miranda, I heard and saw everything.” Derek said. “What did u see and hear?” I questioned. “Don’t run away from the truth, I saw Jan Di and Johnny! Why don’t you tell the teachers? How long will you put up with all of this?” Derek yelled. I walked away in silence, I knew what he was saying was right, but at the same time it was wrong! Which one of the teachers would believe that Jan Di and Johnny, A+ students bother me. Forget it!

The next morning I didn’t want to go to school, I didn’t want to face Jan Di and Johnny again I didn’t know what to do! All knew was I couldn’t put up with all of this now! “Miranda you have to do something about this now!” I said to myself. Then I thought for a second! “What if I k..Ki..Kill her? No.......no...No!! I can’t do such a thing!” I said. I put my lunch in my backpack and headed out to the door to go to school.

I went to class feeling really uneasy and nervous. The whole day had passed by smoothly. It was the end of the day. I was getting my things from my locker when I heard Jan Di and Johnny come. “Hey, princess!” Jan Di whispered in my ear. A chill ran through my spine. Like usual she kicked me, pulled my hair and cackled evilly. One thing was unusual, Johnny had scissors in his hands. “Time for a haircut princess.” Johnny said. I thought hard, I was confused.
I took the vase that was right beside and hit Jan Di on the head with it!!

“Ahhhh!!” Jan Di screamed, and instantly fell to the floor. Within a few seconds blood was everywhere. I stood there in a state of shock. Johnny fell to the floor on his knees. “Jan Di....Jan Di......open your eyes..........god damn it, open your eyes Jan Di!!” Johnny cried. I slowly lifted my blood filled hands and looked at them scared of what would happen to me. I bent down beside Jan Di. “Jan Di......Jaa.....Jan Di.....Jan Di.......” I murmured. “Don’t touch her you animal!” Johnny screamed. He pushed me to the side. “ If anything happens to Jan Di, I will not spare you, you understand!!!” Johnny yelled. Johnny took his phone and called 9-1-1!

Within seconds the police, ambulance, and school staff had arrived. The Police tried pulling me into the police car, but it was almost impossible. I was screaming, crying and laughing at the same time. Instead of taking me to juvenile, they took me to the hospital. I found out that Jan Di didn’t survive because of too much blood loss, and they blamed me for it! I wasn’t feeling too well, the doctor said due to sudden shock, my mind wasn’t working properly. They said it would take months or even years for me to cure. The court had delayed my case to until I got better.

Derek would come and see me every day, he brought me flowers, and toys to play with. My lawyer also came to see me every day. His name was Mike, I thought he was really handsome. He had light brown eyes, gold-brown-black hair, and a really wacky hairstyle. I would call him my prince, but whenever he talked about Jan Di it really irritated me and I started screaming and crying. I was tired of hearing her name every day. The doctor also told Mike not to say her name in front of me, but he didn’t listen.

A full year had passed by and I was slowly recovering. I slowly started acting like a normal 17 year old girl. When I was completely recovered they took me straight from the hospital to juvenile jail. Mike had started to fight my case. I had to go to court almost 3 times a week, which got really annoying. I wanted to forget everything and start a new life, but it was almost impossible.

It took forever for the court to announce if I was guilty or not. Day after day, I had to go to court. They kept calling Johnny and Derek to give their statements. Johnny would obviously keep lying, but it didn’t bother me a bit, I knew he would do anything to defend Jan Di. On the other hand, Derek, he told everything truthfully about Jan Di and Johnny bothering and beating me up every day. Everyday Derek would come and tell me to stay strong and that he would do anything for me to win the case. I always wondered why he acted this way to me, but I ,liked it. Whenever he was with me, I felt safe!


It was February 26, 2010, and it was the happiest day of my life. I was finally proven innocent. The court had decided I didn’t hit her for her to die, I hit her for self defence. I was now 18 years old and the world knew me now. My story was all over the news. Johnny had realized his mistake and publically announced an apology to me. Derek was uncontrollably happy. He threw 5-6 parties and proposed me. Mike was really happy for 2 reasons, 1) because he had won his case, and 2) because I was now free. Everyone seemed really happy except for me, I would never forget the biggest mistake of my life.

With a gasp, I jolted upright. My eyes wide in horror, I scanned the place and found myself in my bedroom. With relief, I closed my eyes as my chest heaved up and down and the beads of sweat stood in position on my forehead. “So, it was only a dream”, I sighed.
