I remember when I was thirteen. I remember how I acted like everything was perfectly fine, and that I could have anything I wanted. As if money was something my parents had plenty of. As if a good paying job and money is what they had. As if I had money I could blow off anytime. After being told no countless times by my parents, I had tried to save up my own money for things so expensive that I'd never get them all: an I-Phone, a brand new electric guitar, a hundred dollar skateboard, a custom made surfboard, a larger fish tank, a new laptop, another piercing or two, another dog, colored contacts, and the list went on. What a selfish b***h I used to be. And several of those things are wanted by teenagers all over the world. And to think I wasn't like the rest of the crowd. Hell, I was in the center of the crowd.
Money is what makes the world go round. At least, that's what business people say. Well, the ones that actually made money, that is. The problem was that nobody was making money in the shitty economy I once knew, especially small business owners. And my family was one of the millions of families that were affected by the decreasing economy. If not for the failing economy, my mom would've had a job that day. If she had a job that day, I just may have been able to say goodbye.
