Moth's Tales
Since I tend to turn my avatars into characters, I thought I might expand on the whole idea a bit. Comments and feedback are greatly appreciated.
The Lab Notes
In the laboratory, Elliot comes across a diary lying face down on the floor.

Thursday 1st April
Had a scare today. They managed to get through the gates outside. Luckily Marianne spotted them, and we managed to fight them off and seal the break before the situation became too serious. There seem to be more of them wandering about than usual. They may be spreading out from the towns.

Monday 5th April
Another dead-end. I need more test subjects, though that is easier said than done. Since losing Jonathon I don’t have the manpower to subdue and contain one of them, and therefore no safe way of obtaining a sample of the virus. All my other samples were destroyed when the generator shorted out last time. By my reckoning, we’ll be without power within two months at the most.

Thursday 27th April
Bad news and good news. The bad news is Marianne’s been bitten. The good news is I now have my test subject. Test subject is locked in the wine cellar. I have to work quickly. If I can identify what part of the virus causes death then perhaps I can synthesise my own version, sans mort, and walk amongst the dead without fear.

Wednesday 19th May
Another stroke of luck. I have succeeded in my efforts, or so I think. How to test it was the problem. A problem no longer! Several days ago, a little teary-eyed girl ended up on my doorstep. I slipped her my vaccine in her hot chocolate. So far no reaction.

Thursday 20th May
Unfortunately I have failed. I’ll need a new test subject.

Monday 24th May
My luck is holding still. I have been delivered a second test subject. The night before last I was obliged to go scavenging for food, since my own larder is diminishing rapidly. Curled up at the base of a tree was a young man. He’d been shot, but I was able to remove the bullet and patch him up. I cannot guarantee he won’t succumb to infection, but I have hope.

Wednesday 26th May
My new subject is still alive, and seems to be healing. Only slight fever, and no signs of infection. I have given him something to make him sleep, and he is resting in one of the cellar rooms. I have spied several weakenings in the fence, and I may not have long left before the fence gives in. The doors may hold a little longer, but the windows will not. I have mixed up a second potential vaccine and will administer it shortly. If the subject survives, then I will inject myself as well.

Friday 28th May
It is done. Now I must wait.
