Day 9: Hallucination
Pulling my jacket tighter around my body, I made my way through the crowded street. I kept from making eye contact in fear of seeing things again. The hallucinations had been getting worse,I wanted to not be afraid all the time.
After that fight Rose and I had last night, I had decided to leave and go somewhere new. That was the first time I’ve ever heard her yell, her eyes swelled over with tears. I told her I didn’t mean to hurt that man, he just frightened me and I reacted.
“Why can’t you just be normal?” her voice trembling with disgust.
“I’m trying! You know-”
“No you aren’t!” I could feel her anger pouring out through her words like poison “You never go to any of the appointments, you promise time and time again but you never follow through!”
“If you would just try to under-”
“I have tried, I have given things up for you, I’ve conformed around your life to make you happy.” wiping away tears she looked at me “Alex, I’m done. I’m leaving you. Those words stung like thousands of knives being slowly pushing into my skin, and just like that she was gone.
Continuing down the street I accidently bumped into someone, looking up to say a quick I’m sorry
I froze. I was expecting to see a normal human face but instead staring straight back at me was the face of the ugliest, meanest looking green monster.
The hairs on my arms and the back of my neck stood straight up. I took of running through the crowd, knocking over other similarly colored monsters on my way. I bolted across the street almost getting run over by what appeared to be a giant catbus, before entering a small alleyway away from the noise of shouting and something that sounded like honking.
Sitting down next to some garbage cans I reached inside of my pocket and pulled out a business card. Looking it over I made my decision right then and there. I needed help, and this time I would go through with it.
