• Headstrong and Thick-skinned

• Assertive and Rebellious

• Loyal and Trustworthy
• Just and Fair

Surprisingly optimistic given the events of his past, Taro has a warrior's heart and has never been able to sit in one place for long. He is always looking for new adventures to begin, and will not let anything stand in his way. A risk-taker and daredevil, he has a fiery personality and a short temper to give him the bravery and stubbornness that gets him into trouble often, but a charismatic tongue will usually smooth him out of harm's way. Taro is headstrong about his decisions and hard to sway, but that makes him a very loyal friend. Any friend of his can be sure they will not be betrayed.

Loyalty and bravery rule the red-head's actions, and with them comes a sense of justice. His confidence gives him the strength to stand up to what he deems is wrong, making him a natural leader as well as someone to turn to for help. If he makes a promise to anyone, he will do anything in his power to see it goes unbroken.

As with all people, Taro has his faults his assertive and rebellious nature has gotten him into trouble more than once, and in the past has almost cost him his life, and so has his loyalty. If he does not like something, he will fight against it just as quickly as he would protect someone close to him.

--Early Years--
Daitaro , more often called "Taro", lived at an orphanage for almost as long as he had been alive. The red-haired, red-eyed youth was dropped off on the doorstep at only a few weeks old. The woman who left him there gave no name, leaving no way to know where he had come from or who his family had been. It was there he stayed for the first seven years of his life, and where he met his best friend, Hiro, who was a year older.

The village where the orphanage was stationed was small and peaceful, fulling Taro's adventurous spirit at an early age. He would wander whenever he could, dragging Hiro with him, and more often than not get in trouble for it. He was perfectly content with this life, but Hiro always seemed very mellow for a child his age, and always had a haunted look behind his green eyes. But the older boy was warmer in Taro's presence, and even seemed to open up a bit.

A few weeks after his seventh birthday, which had been decided as the day he was found, a couple came to the orphanage to adopt. Taro was the lucky one chosen, but despite pleading and wailing, they would not take Hiro as well. The red-haired boy was taken to a bigger village called Konohagakure. It was there that he first learned about shinobi and the warring countries.

--A Pampered Life--
The family was rich and lived in a large estate on the outskirts of the village. There, he received the last name "Rais". The boy was not particularly fond of fancy clothes, overly plush beds, or bathing regularly, and he had no interest in wealth. He was taught to read an write, but manners were hard fought and his tendency to wander sent his new parents into a frenzied search more than a few times. He missed his old life and his best friend. The one thing he did like about the estate was getting to meet the family's daughter.

Kiera was also adopted by the family, though locally, and was three years older, but the two got along really well. She was excited to have a younger brother, and became very protective of him, but she had the heart of an adventurer just like Taro and the two got into plenty of mischief. Three years passed like this, and Taro almost forgot his life in the orphanage. Until the day Hiro showed up.

--Perfect Catastrophe--
Out in the village one day with Kiera, Taro caught sight of someone watching him from a nearby alley, but upon investigation, the person ran. Later on that day, he caught sight of a familiar face near the gates, and chased after the boy when he ran, Kiera in tow. A short distance outside the village, Hiro stopped to catch his breath, but flinched away at Taro's approach. The older boy told him not to follow, that he was in danger, but Taro did not listen. It was then that others sprung on the three. Kiera was grabbed first, but Taro attacked the man. A swift punch to the chest swept the red-haired boy off of his feet, ending the fight before it even started. The last thing he heard before losing consciousness was one of the men congratulating Hiro

The next time he woke, he was tied. Kiera was in the room with him, glaring at Hiro across the room, who stared at them with the same look he always had. He told them he tried to warn them, but questioning him received no answers, and the boy left the room.

They saw no one for what they assumed was the next few days, except to be fed. What felt like it must have been a week passed before they saw Hiro again. He was tossed into the room with them, a bright red welt growing on the side of his face from being slapped or punched. Interaction was tense for a while--neither of the others had seen sunlight for days and had slept uncomfortably on the concrete floor--but eventually it cooled down. Taro asked again what happened, and this time Hiro told them everything. He had been taken from the orphanage while he was out a year before, having been captured similarly to the way they had. He had been forced to lure them out of the village, but tried to save them at the last second. By the time he finished his story he was crying and apologizing profusely because he did not know what was going to happen to them.

Days passed again until Taro came up with a brilliant plan for them to escape. Right after they were fed, with Hiro's help, he managed to get the restraints off of him, and he set to getting the air duct open. It took nearly two hours and plenty of bloody fingers, but he managed to remove the grate and they all hurried inside, moving as silently as possible. To their surprise, they made it out without much issue, and made a run for it as soon as they kicked out an exit.

With no idea where they were, the group just ran as far from the complex as possible, which was when they literally could not run any further, not with the way they had been feed. Tired, hungry, and confused, the children huddled together for the night.

They were soon awakened by the baying of dogs, and knew instantly their escape had been noticed. They ran again, though much slower with as little energy they had, but eventually the barking stopped and they thought they had gotten away. That was when they were attacked. Kicking and screaming, they fought against their much larger foes, but when Taro managed to land a hard blow, the man he had hit drew a sword. Whether trying to make up for what had happened to them, or simply protecting his best friend, Hiro jumped in the way of the attack, taking the sword through the chest. Spirit broken from seeing his friend killed, Taro surrendered, forcing Kiera to as well. The men took the survivors away, leaving Hiro's beaten and bloody body where it had fallen.

--Missing Years--
Taro barely remembers the three years following. At some point Kiera was taken away, and he never saw her again. His hands were burned in front of him, and then he was locked in a small dark room without food or water for days as punishment for running. After the first few days in the darkness he started hallucinating, convinced there were creatures in the shadows waiting for a chance to attack him, so he stopped sleeping as well. Effectively broken, he was nursed back to health. From then on, these fears and more were used against him whenever he misbehaved until he stopped questioning orders and simply did as he was told.

He was handed a weapon soon after and told to defend himself, which resulted in more scars than he is willing to count, mostly on his torso and legs. Eventually he focused on learning how to use the spear and discovered he was quite good with it. His 'owners', per say, took advantage of his unique tactical ability, despite his young age, and, when he was twelve, began sending him with mercenaries on jobs they received. He refused to count how many people fell to his weapon. He lived this way for another two years.

--Change in Fate--
Blocking out memories was a defensive mechanism to help Taro cope through his years of basic slavery, so he will almost never answer questions about that period of his life, but the first days that are not a haze to him began when he found a small black cat with a white spot on its chest. It was injured badly, likely from an attack by another cat, but instead of simply putting it out of its misery like his conditioning usually told him to do, the sight touched him and, for some reason, reminded him of how he had seen his dead friend lying on the ground. Determined to keep that from happening, he took the cat with him and hid it in his room, where he gave it scraps of food and helped it recover. He managed to keep it hidden for nearly two months before it was discovered, but it had restored some part of Taro and now he could fight back for real. He killed the man who had discovered him without hesitation and, taking the cat with him, ran away again.

This time he kept running until the trees grew thinner, the soil rockier, and the terrain mountainous. Only then did he slow down his pace, following a road he had found well into the mountains. Eventually he came upon a large village, Kumogakure, where he decided he would start a new life with his new companion, who he named after his long lost friend, Hiro.

Fourteen now, he was more than old enough to follow a path he had heard about for a long time. Konohagakure had shinobi who protected them, and Taro remembered Kumogakure among the others named to be part of the warring nations. As much as he wanted to put the past four years behind him, he admitted he enjoyed fighting because it was something he was good at. He enrolled in the academy and learned quickly among others there. He found his voice and his knack for witty comments, and for the first time in years could smile without fear of repercussion. Two years later, he graduated and received the headband that signified him as a shinobi of Kumogakure.
