So yes, I've been watching The Walking Dead, on Season 3, and the Governor is really truly ticking me off. I mean, does he get off at making people miserable? Zambies are bad enough, put now this guy's screwing other humans over. He calls Rick's group hostile, terrorists, hell-bent on wreaking havoc to their innocent little town. In reality, the Governor is the antagonist. He tortured Glenn and Maggie, sent Merle to execute Michonne (whew she's alive), and constantly antagonizes Rick's group, which is infiltrating the town to save the hostages. His constant smile, like everything's beneath him, and his lifted chin, like he thinks he's better. Every evil plot he concocts appears to be reasonable through his deceptively calm demeanor. He clouds the true nature of his intentions with the siren's song that is his words.
He orders his lieutenant nonchalantly,
"The minute you see Michonne, you open fire. Kill the others, but you keep her alive."
When Milton (finally, a spark of compassion in Woodbury) hears this, he replies,
"What about the deal?"
"Well, they'll bring Rick, Merle's brother, maybe Glenn, Merle himself. We can take care of the whole crew. Best way to avoid a slaughter."
"That is a slaughter," Milton, who stops in his trackss, replies, aghast.
As usual, the gov. acts as if what he proposes is for the good of all, to avoid slaughter. Yet through his pretty package of words, he intends to slaughter all of Rick's group.
"Phillip" preaches about keeping the people safe, protecting the harmony of people, but also tells Rick that his reputation of strength needs to be preserved by initiating a war-- or having Michonne in his custody (for him to torture). When you strip away his thousand masks, you see a cunning darkness. Everything about him infuriates me! Little do the ignorant townspeople know that their governor is merciless under his masquerade. Andrea, snap outta his charm (which I don't see actually exists) and put the pieces together. And the whole my daughter's still alive in her zombie body would be more tragic if he weren't so cruel to innocent people (like that time when he promised an injured man that he would save his fellow National Guard soldiers, but, upon arrival, brutally massacred the whole group). So when Michonne had his zombie daughter at sword-point, why should she have stopped? Because he begged? Because for once in his lifei he grovelled?
And isn't Michonne just the bestest? When she first showed up to save Andrea, armed with her slicing katana, dressed in her black hood, face shrouded, and metal chains pulling her zombie rodies, I'm almost sure I squealed in glee. Like daryl, she's one of those kickass people who don't rely on those noisy, ammo-dependent guns, which are basically zombie magnets, ironically. Being able to blast someone's brains out with a bullet isn't really a huge feat. A katana... well that's a whole 'nother level. I wonder what she did in her free time before this whole apocalypse thing happened. Probably sliced up boulders and did pushups with dumbells on her back and spikes beneath her.
Hopefully Rick pulls together. He's been through s**t enough that he could stink to rotten walkers. He barely trusts anyone, after having killed his best friend and having lost his wife. Being the leader can crush a person.
