RP - "Come Days End" [[post-apocalyptic]]

Everything we've all been warned about and just pushed aside laughing; Pollution and Global warming, WWIII and the fall of the Economy. None of it was our concern, it couldn't happen and if it did it wouldn't be in our life time, it was something of futuristic Sci-fi movies so no worries. right?

In a city like anyother, on a day like anyother people listened to their car radios (politics mainly, the usual) in the middle of daytime traffic when heads turned to the skies as the siren filled their ears, many people were confused they had only heard the noise in movies but that didn't stop what was to happen...I still remember it...I stood and watched like so many others as the streak of white cut across the sky, it took a minute for it to register what I was seeing, missiles, the bombs were falling...that's when the panic hit or maybe thats when I remember getting knocked down and swept away in the river of mass panic, people started running and fighting each other to get into what they thought were pretty good hiding holes, but it made little difference...

The world seemed to slow and sound stopped dead as i noticed a wind pulling on my pant legs, I remember it felt like forever but I know it took less then a few seconds...there was a blinding light and i closed my eyes tight but i could see through the lids, the light burned, the pain..there was pain everywhere, a pressure filled my head and it was done and gone along with everything else and when i woke...it was unreal, I didn't know where I was just that there was a dull pain when I tried to walk, my vision was blurred and my head swam. I stumbled and fell to the ground and that's when time time decided to speed back up, but that was still too fast for me...people were screaming, yelling for help, for lost loved ones or just for the hell of it. Alarms of every kind whailed filling the air and fires and smoke and dust choked me as my vision cleared focusing on the only real color: red, little red rivers flowed across the grey stone and metal and...the corpses of dead people, that's when I threw up and I continued to dry heave

...what a legacy we left behind, more like a river of filth and
blood...we're not laughing any more.

there were more politics, we found out later that there wasn't a war, that there had been a mass global technical failure; military weapon's guidance went on the fritz all over the world and missiles randomly targeted and fired upon locations whether they were in it's computer or not, we were lucky, we weren't hit by anything nuclear but there were other places around the world that weren't as lucky. And that's not the worse of it, government files were lost or scrambled and power plants world wide just stopped running and electricity became unreliable, it still is, people are now saying that Y2K finally hit and the economy did fall...we were told that we would recover in a few decades and then everthing would be back to normal...would have been back to normal but all the missile strikes sent up a ton of dirt and dust and debris into the air and it carried up to the atmosphere causing unusal weather; acid rain and snow in summer, monsoons in the desert and draught in the rainforest.

That was over 10 years ago, we never did recover but if there is one thing that can be said for the human race, it's that we know how to adapt...like insects... humans have gone back to superstitions, like this old deity dude Momuses: The god of blame and ridicule and we use a bartering system now and people have broken up into three main categories; City Dwellers or Scavengers, they find things to barter with and provide guides through the ruined cities, they are seen as savage cut-throats who will do buisness with any body for the right price. then there are the Nomads, they caravan the goods around and are the main business for the City Dwellers, there are two types of Nomads, those that travel with there families and cattle and are more like gypsies and there are those that leave there families in a home base camp. Nomads are seen as peacefull but they turn out some of the best mercenaries, I mean they would have to right? what with all the Mutants. mose people think that mutants are the unfortunate ones that were near enough those places that were hit by nuclear missiles but far enough that they lived, they come in all forms, from looking totally human to looking like a monster out of a nightmare and they are everywhere and people are afraid of them because most of them have become unstable mentally and attack people and theres a rumor that some of them even have powers of some kind but for all that it's sad, the radiation is killing them slowly and painfully...

remember that electricity is unreliable and that cities are now rubbled ruins over grown in many parts and things like canned food and bottled wine and other things from before the strikes are rare valuables...what you have on your person your character had to either bartered for (money is useless) or raided in the days following the missile strikes 10 years ago...no one knows why the world suddenly went to hell (you can be City Dwellers, Nomads or Mutants)
