The "Killer" in me
We, as mortals, have a ticking time bomb.
Some faster than others.
Some more unpredictable than others.
Sadly, those that face the anaphylactic shock,
their life is on a fast ticking clock.
A condition stuck between fast-acting and stock still.
A weak grasp on the string of life.
Meandering between life and death.
If not in shock, face the consequences.
Walk along the thin fences.
Swollen and pulsating lips.
Wave after wave of stomach aches
and continuous arms wrapping around the hips.
Never-ending urges of heaving.
Fading in and out as it feels like the soul is slowly leaving.
An imaginary plastic bag over the head.
A clear sight of a face filled with dread.
Lips that are unnaturally red.
It feels like they are being fire-fed.
Internally burning
while externally shaking.
There is barely much control
as the "killer" has taken its toll.

Note: Hello my readers, this poem is dedicated to Food Allergy Awareness Week (May 13-19.) For people like me, food allergies can be permanent and will always have a chance of taking life. Sadly, food allergies are often shrugged off as just a mere mutation that should not be taken seriously. Food allergies are no joke, and it should definitely have its own awareness week. Teal represents Food Allergy Awareness Week! But, it is not official week for all 50 states yet. But, I look forward to it as education about it is important for both victims that have it and for those around them that can help with injecting epinphrine in case of emergency or prevent the shock from starting.
