This is my last day to live
Hello. My name is Emily Jonson. I come from a big family but not to big. I hardly ever get to see my mother and father only my sisters and brothers. I am a hard worker but soon I will have a hard life. Well, I think. Well, can I just tell you my story then go on? Thank you.
It was a warm winter day when I had to wear this long hot dress but that was everyday but this was hotter. I was doing my morning chorchs when I heard father coming with some goods he bought in town. “ Papa! “ I yelled running to him. “ Emily! “ he yelled back to me. “ What did you buy for us today papa? “ I asked smiling. As you can see it was when I was a child and it where where there were no, Tvs or anything like that. Just the long hard day I had to work. “ Oh just some peppermint sticks for you. Then some other things for your sisters and brothers. “ he said to me as I took them taking one putting it in my mouth. It tasted so good and just think I got this on a hot summer day and its not Christmas. Well, I went inside trying to find Mama. “ Mama! Where are you? “ I called inside the house. See my father was a good house builder and made this house that was really nice with a lot of rooms. It took about 5 months and we had to live in a cabin but now I just use it to play with my little sisters when I got to watch them. Soon I finally found here in the kitchen. “ Yes, Emily dear? “ she asked happy to see me. I was sweaty by the time I got in there. “ I got peppermint and was wondering if you would want one for a snake when you get hungry in your work. “ I said walking to her. “ I would love one. My golly your are sweaty. Go get a lighter dress on and then go work. “ she said and I nodded giving her one as I ran upstairs. I found one in my wardrobe my father got me. See he had a good job and got like 200 dollars a day so we where rich in the day. Soon I ran down stairs going out the door in my light dress going to the field. It got hotter today. It was about noon. “ Emily! Come over here! “ one of my brothers yelled out to me. “ Yeah!? “ I yelled back running over to him. “ Look. “ he said pointing to a snake. “ Don't touch it. It may be deadly. “ I said then added. “ I'm going to go get papa. “ he nodded. “ Hurry. “ he added to the nod. I ran to papa getting to him. “ Papa! Arin found a snake! “ I yelled half way. “ What?! “ he yelled running to him. “ Arin don't get to close. “ he said as I stayed behind him. He got his knife cutting its head. We ran as papa got splattered in blood. Finally it was fully killed and he went to clean off. “ Emily! Emily are you alright! “ yelled my mother. “ Yeah! “ I yelled back.
“ Good. Also Arin your friend is here. “ my mama said. “ Okay. “ he said running to him. Oh yeah! Arin is 17 years old and I'm 16. His friend Mathew is 17 also and I think he has a slight crush on me but I can't tell. Arin and I were close so we mostly did everything together. Even though I'm 16 I still like to eat peppermint and tell mama. “ Emily come with me! “ he yelled halfway to Mathew. “ Coming! “ I cached up with him as soon as I was out of breath. I wasn't a good runner in my dress but when I was younger and I was weirder I would run around with out my dress in my undergarments. My brother would laugh at me but I didn't care. I had my hands on my knees as I tried to catch my breath. “ Hey no, need for a girl to run that fast. “ Mathew said to me. “ I don't care. I like to run. “ I told him laughing a bit. “ Hey Mathew want to go in the woods and gather things? Oh and Emily you should ask papa to come. “ Arin told me. “ Fine. “ I said running to papa. “ Papa! Can I go in the woods with Arin and Mathew to gather things we need? “ I asked him. “ Why I don't think this pretty lady like you need to go out there but okay you may. “ he said laughing his mighty laugh. “ Thanks! “ I yelled running back. “ He said yes. “ I told them. “ Lets go! “ Arin yelled running to the woods. I gathered rasbarries as Mathew and Arin tried to catch a frog. It hopped off till I picked it up. “ Hey! “ yelled Arin. “ It looked like you needed help. “ I said handing it to him whipping off the wet slime off my hands. “ No, we didn't. “ Mathew said then remembered something. “ Hey remember how my mama and papa always have a party this time of year? “
Mathew asked us. “ Yeah. “ both of me and Arin said. “ Well, I was wondering if your family could come. “ he said. “ We got to ask papa. “ Arin said. “ Okay. “ Mathew said and we ran off. We ran to papa and asked him. “ Yes, that would be great. Emily dear you need to wear you black dress then. “ my mother said butting it. “ But that is the heaviest one of all. “ I wined. “ You got to get used to it. “ she said. “ Fine but I'm not wearing that thing that makes you want to die. “ I said as the boys laughed. “ Fine but then I'll tie it. Now Arin you are going to wear your clean cloths. “ she said. “ Now why do he get to wear that and I get to wear that stupid dress? “ I asked. “ Because you are a lady. “ she said. “ Well, ladies have rights just like them. “ I said glaring at this bully from school. “ Oh there is that Emily. “ he said. “ Get away. “ I told him and walked off inside the house. “ Whats up with here? “ he asked. “ She is mad because she has to wear her heaviest dress of all and she says she has rights just like men. “ said my papa. “ That's not true. “ he said. “ I believe she is right. “ papa said. ” Okay well, my mama wanted to ask Emily if she could see her for something. “ he said. “ What is this something? “ my mama asked. “ I don't know. She just said something. “ he said. “ Fine. I'll go for a second. “ I said walking out of the house.
“ I'll come now to get it over with. “ I added. “ Okay. “ my papa and mama and he said. “ Lets go. “ I said getting on his wagon. He asked me things but I ignored the questions. Soon we got there. He helped me out but I got out by myself. I walked inside his cabin. “ Hello Emily. “ she said walking in. “ Hello Miss. York. “ I said. “ Come over here and sit. “ I did as she said. “ Now about that question. Would you like to be sewed into the quilt of the family? “ she asked me. I was wide eyed. “ Uh....uh...I need to think. “ I said seeing her son and husband. “ Hello to you also. “ I said. “ Well, I must be going. “ I said getting up. “ Son bring her home to her house. “ Miss. York said. “ No, thank you I'll walk. “ I said to her. “ See that is what I like in a girl. Shes tough. “
said Mr. York. “ Like you. “ he said to Miss. York. When I was out the door I walked home. Took me a long time but I got there. Everyone was waiting. “ So? “ they asked. “ Miss. York asked me if I wanted to be sewed in her family quilt. “ I told them. “ What! “ they all shouted. “ What did you say? “ asked my mother. “ I said that I will think about it. “ I said firmly. “ I heard Mr. York say that he liked me to be his sons wife someday because I'm tough sense I walked home. “ I said walking inside. “ Wait. You should have said yes. They get good money like us and I want you to be like us. “ my mama said. “ I said maybe. I'll think about it. I don't even like him. “ I said turning around. “ Then who do you like? “ my papa asked.
“ Its a secret. “ I said going to my room sitting on my bed. After a wail I heard my mama yell to get ready. I got my dress on walking down stairs. “ Emily you look very pretty. “ Mathew said. Everyone looked at him. “ What its just a comment. “ he said shrugging. “ Emily darling. I got something for you. My mama gave them to me when I was young like you. “ my mama said as I walked to her. “ Here. “ she said handing me these black high heels. “ Wow. “ I said putting them on. I stood up looking at them lifting my dress. My dress wasn't that fancy just my mother wanted me to wear it. “ Good they fit. “ she said. They weren't that high but higher then normal. “ Lets go. “ I said going outside. For some reason I felt Mathew putting his arm around me when I walked out the house but when I looked he was with my brother. I got in the wagon as we went off. I got there getting out. Everyone looked at me and then went back to what they where doing. Mr. York and Miss. York was there with Tom. Miss. York spotted me and called me over. “ Yes, Miss. York.? “ I asked walking to her.
“ Did you think? “ she asked me. I looked at my papa and he pointed to his heart. Then I knew what he was saying. Follow your heart. I thought for a moment before answering. “ Yes, I did and I dicieded to say no. “ I said glad to get it off my back. The hole family of them where mad and they went off. “ Why did you say no? “ my mama asked. “ Because I'm not going to marry someone I don't like. “ I said felling like she was mad. “ Then who do you like? “ she asked. “ Don't tell me its a secret. “ she said pointing a finger at me. “ Well, Uh...I uh...like...uh...Mathew. “ I said looking down then ran off. I found this creak sitting down on a rock. My mama was surprised and told Mathew. He started to look for me then heard me muttering things to myself. “ Emily? “ he asked putting his hand on my shoulder. “ I suppose my mama told you. “ I said looking down. “ Yes, she did. “ he said sitting down by me. “ Its weird but I like you also. “ he said kissing me on the lips. I pulled away after a bit. All I could think of was smiling. I hugged him as he fell down. Soon a breeze went thew me. We both shivered then we saw this person who looked like me.
I blakened out. Mathew picked me up running to my mama. “ Miss. Jonson! “ he yelled carring me to her. “ What is it Mathew? “ she asked. He told her the story and my family went home and Mathew went with use. Soon I woke up in my room. I got up looking at my back. It had wings! I screamed as everyone ran to me. “ I got wings! “ I yelled when they got in there. “ What!? “ mama asked. “ I got wings! “ I yelled back at her. She fainted as I blacked out again. I woke up the same time as mama. I found out I had black wings and a black halo and a devils tail. My mom had white wings and a gold halo. We both looked at echother with my tail swishing. It had a sharp point and I had this tight cloths on. I didn't like it but it was to reviling. I quickly got a dress on that was dark black and it had black roses on it with a little red. It looked nice and I had these pitch black high heels one that my mama gave me. There was a hole in it for my tail.
My mom had the same but hers was white. I smiled. “ This is nice. “ I said going in a twirl. “ Yeah. “ my mama agreed. We both flew in the sky going to town. My tail was sticking out and people where staring. They thought I was a devil. “ Emily? “ Tom asked me. “ Yeah? “ I asked looking at him. “ Are...are you a...the...devil? “ he asked staring. “ No, it just happened in my mama is the same but looks like an angel. I rather have black though. “ I said as my tail went to him. It poked him slightly. “ Ow! Whats that for!? “ he yelled at me. “ Oh the reason why is because you wanted me to be on your quilt. I am never going to marry you. “ I said as Mathew ran to me suprising me with a kiss.” Hey. “ I said with a smile. “ Hey there. “ he said. “ Oh you chose him after me? “ Tom asked. “ Yeah. “ I said as he walked away red. I laughed when he walked away.
“ He so weird like that. “ I said with a laugh. “ Yeah....I wonder what he will do to you for pay back. “ Mathew said to me as I shrugged flying off. He holded onto my leg as I flew in the air with my mama. “ Hey Emily where are we going? “ Mathew asked us as I took his hand as he was flying like me. “ Where ever mama is going. “ I said smiling at him. “ We are going to go look for better land. “ she said. “ You mean so.....? “ I cut myself off. “ Yes. “ she said as I smiling brightly.
