Garden of Dreams
National Championship 11/18/06
When the number one team and the number two team show off and just happen to be archrivals, boys and girls, we have a game that's more important than the championship.

OSU has been ranked number one since the start of the season and we've held that position by not losing a game and playing really well. Michigan rose in ranks through playing well and they got to the number two position.

The rivalry between OSU and Michigan is one of the biggest in college football. And we always play them around my birthday. I remember some years, it took place on my birthday, we'd lose and it'd be a quiet day. If we'd win, we'd all go out and celebrate. It's a very big deal in my family. Big deal. Huge. Giant.

So last year, the game was at Michigan. And I thought how next year, my senior year I'd love to get tickets to see the Michigan game. Had to buy tickets for the other home games which I didn't care for. I only wanted to see Michigan. I could sit at home with a big bowl of chips and salsa for the other games (though I didn't razz ).

It was such an amazing game last night. The final score was 42-31 and it was a close game up until the last quarter, up until the last 5 minutes. I was on my feet the whole time, screaming for the team. Screaming at the top of my lungs and most times, I could only barely hear myself. (Afterwards, my throat was so hoarse, I sounded like the smoker that's smoked for 20 years and has the icky gravelly voice xD) Everyone was screaming. And the stands were full. More people attended this game than any other game in the history of football, 105,708 people. I didn't see an empty seat anywhere. And 97% of the people were OSU fans. It was great to see so much red.

The other games, with the excpetion of the game I went to with Ryan, I'd sit there and by the time 3rd quarter came, I'd be wanting to be finished with it. (The game with Ryan, despite being freaking cold was fun because I could snuggle him). The Michigan game, I'm looking at the clock and seeing it tick by and thinking "No, we need more time!!"

Halftime was interesting. Michigan's band got up and played songs from Led Zeplin which was nice. Didn't care for the booing when they first got on though. Then OSU's band got out there. We are the best damn band in the land and they proved it last night. They had a theme of 'Hollywood' and started out by spelling that. It was a medley of several songs from popular movies. They started off with the theme from ET, the band forming a giant bike and the letters ET. The wheels were turning and they moved down the field like the bike was flying. That was pretty sweet.

Then they brought out these giant blue tarps and formed a boat, the Titantic. Which of course sank into ocean. They had some sort of smoke producing thing in the horns of the tubas at the top of the smoke stacks. Then they formed a pirate ship and played the theme from Pirates of the Carribean. After that, they said they'd do a song from Lord of the Rings, then they made the Eye of Sauron. Then they did a song from Starwars, starting out with the Darth Vader theme while they formed Darthvader's helmet. Then they moved into the shape of Yoda which was pretty bad a**. Then finished spelling Star Wars. The music was great and the formations had people cheering just as loud as we cheered for the football team.

Five minutes until the end of the game and Kate, Dave and I go from our seats down to the ground level so we can get ready to storm the field. We weren't the only ones, of course, to think of this. There was a huge mass of people. Stood there for 5 minutes, won the game then the crowd started moving. I nearly fell on people as people were pushing to get on the field. Kate was right behind me, gripping my shirt as we moved. Dave behind her, but he got his leg caught between a rail and we lost him onto the field. (My mother pointed out it was a little funny that the crowd could jostle him enough to get him in a position where he could get hurt but not enough to jostle two females razz )

We got out on the field and there were these piles of newspapers, really jus tone page things saying that OSU beat Michigan. Kate and I grabbed one each. Then the field filled up, 20K people shoulder to shoulder. Cheering as the team makes their way through the crowd, everyone slapping them on the back, cheering and screaming. It was so great. The band then played Carmen Ohio twice, and everyone sang. Then they played Sloopy and everyone sang that. Then a resounding chourus of "We Don't Give A Damn For the Whole State of Michigan." It was so wonderful! Apparently people ripped up the turf to take home. I'd thought of that but I didn't try to get any. Namely because I would've been trampled at the time.

So, I decided on the way home that I could frame the newspaper page I got from the game, the autograph I got from Tressel and my ticket, (and maybe the little towel they give out at the games) for my Dad. I need to pick up the dispatch today and save that too, since it'll be about the Bucks.

This is the biggest game in college football. I doubt I'll see a better game, where so much is riding on it.

Unless Michigan goes to the bowl game too. They were ranked number two but that could drop depending on how other teams play. I don't want to play them again razz It's too stressful to watch that game. If we play someone else in the bowl game, and lose, then it won't be as bad as losing to Michigan. Playing and losing to Michigan would be heartbreaking. And they'd probably jump at a chance to play us, get revenge for losing at the Shoe.

Thanks to those that let me cheer about this victory on YIM last night. <3 Such a great game. My dad is looking to buy it on DVD. He forgot to record it. I hope the DVD has the halftime show. <3

Unrelated, I'm hovering in the 40-50's in the avatar arena. The short lived time I was in the top ten is done I think. crying

But we still beat Michigan!! <3

A special thanks to those that let me cheer to them after the game instead saying you didn't care. I was very very excited and some people refused to share my enthusiasm and that really pissed me off razz THanks for those that weren't heart

Add On: Apparently the score was 41-39. Michigan must've scored when I was down on the ground waiting to storm the field. xd

And we might play them again for the national championship cry
