The burly man followed me back into an alley, where I stopped, and leaned up against the grimy wall.
"You got my payment?" I growled, sounding harsh even to me
His eyes gleamed in the dark, "Yah, Roons. I got your payment."
"Good. I want it. Half up front, and then, when you have what you need, Give me the other half. that's how I work."
He balked, piggish mouth turned stuboornly downward, "And Whys should I do that? Whys should I even pay you when you'll probably just take more than what you need from the job, anyway."
"Because," I snarled, standing straight up, and making as if to go, "I'm the best there is. And if you want the job done right, then you'll pay me the dues how and when I want them. Otherwise, you can just do it yourself, fat boy."
I turned to go, and he caught me by my cloaked shoulder, "Wait, Rooney....I'll pay you. But you've gotta do the job right."
Brushing him off, I said, "Just give me the gold. That's all I need, and you can wait at the spot we appointed. Unless I run into serious trouble, I'll be prompt. "
"What if- what If I can't be there?"
I looked at him in his eyes, "Then I'm keeping your share for myself, you stupid b*****d, that's what. Now leave me alone. I have other clients better than you to deal with."
And with that, I stalked off into the night...
