Splattered Letters
Why write fantasy?
I write fantasy as I find it an amazing genera. It not just the mystical creatures that make it enjoyable to write, I mean lets face it mythical creatures such as dragons are only one ingredient for fantasy based books.
There are a huge range of plots in fantasy stories, these could include a world wide threat, a war, a disappearance, a discovery of a new kingdom.

I looked up the meaning of 'fantasy' in google, here is what I got:
# The creative imagination; unrestrained fancy. See synonyms at imagination.
# Something, such as an invention, that is a creation of the fancy.
# A capricious or fantastic idea; a conceit.
#

1. Fiction characterized by highly fanciful or supernatural elements.
2. An example of such fiction.

# An imagined event or sequence of mental images, such as a daydream, usually fulfilling a wish or psychological need.

Really fantasy is like fairy tales, only it doesn't have the happily ever after ending most of the time.
What really defines fantasy is the supernatural element, its magic, because in modern day, real magic is considered not real and impossible. Back in the ages before science, people though that the plants growing was due to the magic of the sun, now it is known that it is not really magic that causes plants to grow.
So because of science the world is a less magical place, I'm not saying science is a bad thing, but it just seems to normalise the world.
