My Journal smile
Hell
She was falling. Deeper and deeper. She didn't know why, or for how long, but it was getting darker and darker and she was scared and she was crying. She didn't want to fall she wanted to be safe. Something grabbed her wrist.

It was him.
Instantly her heart began to race. He stood there, not falling. She tried to speak, but he smiled and her words were caught in her throat. He reached out and pulled her to him. Now she wasn't falling. She huddled into his warm chest and looked up. He was smiling a heart-stopping smile, his blue eyes sparkling.

She felt safe here. She never wanted to leave him. She wanted him to always be there. She tightened her grip, but pulled back. Something was wrong. He was disappearing. She grabbed for him but there was nothing to grab. She was screaming for him, crying for him, but he was gone.

* * *

She woke up cold and crying.

It was the third time she'd had the dream. And every time she would wake up hugging herself as if he were still there. She wiped tears from her eyes and got out of bed. She opened her window. Dark clouds loomed above her and the air was heavy and thick. A single drop of water fell from the menacing sky. She closed the window and walked down her creaky stairs. A cup of cold hot chocolate and a note was waiting for her.

"Went to work early. Have a good day at school."

* * *

He was waiting for her.

He always did. They would walk together to the bus stop. He would talk about his latest crush and she would listen, fighting back tears. He would smile at her, hug her, protect her, as if she were his little sister. And every time he did she would smile and try to contain the yearning for him that overflowed in her heart.

"I like a girl," he said one day.

"As always," the girl replied, a painful smile on her lips.

He gave a short, halfhearted laugh, "This is different," he said, "I really like this girl."

She glanced up at him, "You've really liked a lot of other girls too."

He gave an annoyed sigh, "Yeah but, this is different. I think I love her."

She wrote.

She wrote about many things. But her favorite topic was him. Every day she wrote her feelings out. Today, she wrote about despair. She wrote about her life and family and herself and how they were all filled with despair. He had talked to her about the girl. How she was beautiful and funny and smart. Each word a knife thrust into her heart. He talked about how he wishes they were more than friends

"There's just something about her," he said, "that when she says something I just want to...."

She looked at him, "You just want to what?"

"Kiss her."

They stepped off the bus, the clouds hanging ominously over them.
"I'd better get home," she said, almost bitterly. She started to walk but he grabbed her hand.
"Wait," he said quickly. He pulled her back to face him, "What's wrong?" his eyes looked worryingly into hers.
She wanted to spill then. To tell him everything. To tell him she wanted to be with him. To tell him she wanted to be safe.
A tear slid down her cheek, "Nothing," she looked away, and he slowly let go of her hand.

Raindrops started falling around them. Soon it was raining steadily. Her hair and clothes clung to her in the pouring rain. She shivered involuntarily and he came over and put his arms around her.

* * *
She was standing.
She didn't know where or why, but she couldn't move. He walked in and stood inches from her face. She wanted to kiss him, but she couldn't move. He just waited, looking intently at her. She started to cry. She wanted to hug him and never let go. But she couldn't move. Tears were streaming down her face she wanted to tell him not to leave. But he turned and left without so much as a good-bye. She had lost him forever...
* * *
She woke up stiff and crying.
Rain was pouring outside her window. She walked down the creaky stairs. She found her hot chocolate and the note again.
He was waiting for her. He smiled a heart stopping smile. She stopped for a moment and composed herself.
“Hi,” he said still smiling, “beautiful day, isn't it?”
She flicked her eyes in his direction, “What's so beautiful about the rain?”
They stopped at the bus stop and he looked at her, “I like the rain,” he said, “it may not have much to say, but it's beautiful all the same.” His blue eyes were as bright as ever.
She swallowed hard at his smooth voice, “Is that what the girl is like?”
He turned to her and smiled, “Yeah.”
She turned her face away, fighting back stinging tears. Why must she have to put up with this?
He took her hands in his, “Hey,” he said urgently, “You okay?”
She looked up at him, tears already streaming down her face, “Who is it?” she asked, “I know it's not me but I just need to know so I can stop torturing myself!”
He pulled her toward him and she buried her face into his warm chest. He pulled her so she looked him in they eyes, “It's you.” And he smiled his heart stopping smile.
