The Voodoo Trickery
Crystal sits beneath the boughs of the old apple tree, lost in her thoughts. She is a young girl, glimmering with innocence and lost in the dreams of a child. An apple lays loosely in the palm of her left hand, golden and ripe to bursting. Her skirts are crumpled beneath her and her black hair is pulled back into a gentle, French braid, pieces flying out as she had been running against the wind.

A boy walks to the tree and sits beside her silently, ugly to most, he harbors nothing but naïve hurt. Crystal turns and smiles, taking his hand and placing the apple within it. She stands up and pulls the boy up with her, moving fluidly with the grace of a ballerina.
Dancing with the wind, the two children are lost in the melody of the rustling leaves. The boy is shocked but pleased that this girl has accepted him and his eyes meet hers, sapphire intertwining with ruby.
She smiles softly and twirls, her skirts flying out, leaving the boy standing alone, hurt for another quick moment. He soon realizes that the girl is dancing back towards him and lends his hand to guide her back.

A few moments of this silent dance and they are to be found beneath the tree once more, talking softly. Minutes of conversation pass as they debate issues that should be unbeknownst to such children. War, morals, ethics and philosophy pass through these children’s lips, releasing opinions untainted by the world’s influence.

“What do you think love is?” the boy asks calmly, gazing out at the barren field around them.
“Love? It is a beauty. It is a song, one that is sung by two people and each must find each other, lest they never find their soul mate. When combined, these two people can create a melody that is so gorgeous that everyone chooses to frown upon it.”
The girl turns and stares at the boy for a moment and says, “Why do you ask?”
“If I sing a song now, I think you’ll make it beautiful.”
Crystal leaned over and pecked Richard on the lips, “I will sing, I will sing.”
