Wheee! Rant number 4. The world is just chock full of things to bith about! whee I HATE people who bring film and television from one country to another and do a piss poor job at adapting it.

Right, so, I JUST finished watching Gigantis the Fire Monster. The American remake of Godzilla vs Anguiras. Granted, I have not seen the original japanese version, but this was just one god aweful production. They used stock footage that wasn't even in the orrigional film and it wasn't even at a similar quality! They renamed Gojira/Godzilla to Gigantis, the narrator was positively exstatic and filled with joy to tell you about how people were dieing, and the voice of one of the hero's in the film sounds like a complete doofus. If you havn't seen the movie, lower your voice a few octaves and say "DUUURRRRR HUUUURRR HUURRRRR" and you'll have a good idea of what it was like.

I'll admit, sometimes, they can do a good job at translating, Take Miazaki's spirited away fro example. That was beautifully translated and the voices even sounded correct, even if they weren't the same. Then you go and have a look at something like Naruto or Onepiece and it's been completely butchered. I could spit onto a piece of paper, call it a script, and the shows couldn't be any worse than they are. Really, I wasn't expecting anything high budget, but it's not that hard to find competant voice actors that won't make you pay an arm and a leg for employing them here in North America..... I mean... I just don't get it.... Anything that was made here is done with relatively decent quality, hell, some go above and beyond and be considdered really good. Atleast compared to this dreck.

Even videogames get the same treatment. There are SO many awesome games out there, that really fall short in the voice acting department. Megaman X4, the recent transformers games, absolute garbage! Then you look at things like Ace Combat Zero, and Diablo 2 and Fable. Excelent acting! I was rarely dissapointed at all and they really helped the games to become immersive. None of them had any big name actors, but they all did their jobs really well. Same goes for Spirited Away as I mentioned earlier... wonderful acting and wonderful choice of actors and they didn't even have to change the story or script in any major way.

It's just sad, even when there are kung-fu flicks (which you expect to be corny and have bad acting) that are far better than this stuff. As much as I appreciate it that the people who translate movies and games are trying to bring some culture to these countries, I've got four words for them "YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!".

The people who mistranslate, rewrite the story, change firearms into waterguns and cigarettes into lollypops ought to be shot and pissed on.

Which brings me to why I like fansubbers. Sure there are a few bad ones out there... but atleast they don't change who the characters are! Naruto isn't a retard who say's "believe it" every sentance, he's a retard with an oldschool charm. Sanji doesn't have a sweet tooth, he's a chain smoker, waterguns don't kill people, bullets do, Monroe never performed in a club in Osaka, X isn't a little girl, and heros don't sound like they're hicks who are constantly taking depressants! stressed
