Blue Horizon
Chapter 1: "Hello, Goodbye"- The Beatles
I was in the plane on a family trip around the world. My dad owns his own company, so we're kinda rich. He was on vacation and so were my twin sister and I. I also let my friends come. My friends were Aizan, Araceli, and Natalie. I was in the plane listening to my ipod. Rock is the best. I lay there with my eyes closed shut. A few minutes later I notice someone putting something behind my head. "Wha-" I opened my eyes, face aggravated.
"Sorry, I thought you were asleep. Proceed," it was my friend Aizan, he smiled mouth wide with a brilliant pearl white smile. He happened to put his arm around me to support my head.
I blushed, my pale face cherry red," I-it's all right. You didn't know."
I heard my friend a seat back of me giggling in a whisper. I turned around and gave her the, I’ll deal with you later, face. Aizan put his arm back in his comfortable position where he wasn't touching me. My twin sister, Ellie, was mad at me. She gets jealous to easily.
"So Keira what's the agenda when we finally get to Brazil?" Araceli asked, mouthful of chips. Natalie was videotaping every single thing that everyone did. Oh! I forgot to tell you. My name is Keira Walker.
“ I guess we just hang-out and…uh… we can go to the awesome beaches!”
“ That’s a great idea, Keira!” Natalie shouted that in my ear and nearly made me deaf.
“ I can’t wait to see that…” Aizan mumbled to himself smiling.
“Huh?” the four of us stared at Aizan.
“Uh… Nothing…” he looked away.
He always says something in a whisper and never repeats it when I’m curious about what it is. He seems so…shy when he’s around me or talking to me. Even though, he’s so shy around me, we’re still really good friends.
“ Well, do you think we’ll get there any sooner ‘cause I’m getting seriously bored to death,” Ellie always complains, it really gets on everybody’s nerves. Ellie and I are different kind of twins, we’re ferternal twins. We have total different personalities. I’m the one who is always pessimistic and she’s the optimistic one. Natalie, Araceli, and Aizan are my friends. Ellie doesn’t have to many friends because she’s too snobby, her friends couldn’t come because they were all too “busy”.
We finally landed in the airport of the beautiful tropical Brazil. When we got out of the plane we were all amazed it was so, so gorgeous. It was so much prettier in real life than looking at it on TV or in a textbook.
“ Wow! This looks awesome!” Natalie quickly took her camera and threw it to me to take pictures of the place. She brought a lot of tape and film. When I turned to look at the expression on Aizan’s face I was somewhat disappointed. He looked unsatisfied. As soon as he met my gaze his expression changed to a happy smile. I smiled back so that I wouldn’t be rude and make him go back to that unsatisfied look.
“So? Why don’t we all get a room in a hotel and dress up to get to the beaches like we planned?” Ellie suggested.
“ Finally, you actually thought of a good plan for the first time of your life.” I said sarcastically and tapping her forehead at the same time.
She was infuriated, when everybody laughed, she got really mad when she saw Aizan laugh at her too. Then she calmed down when she saw dad. She had that evil smirk on her face and walked towards dad.
“Dad! Keira was making fun of me!” She complained and I grimaced.
“ Don’t act like such a spoiled brat. Although Keira don’t do it again I don’t want to hear Ellie complain on my vacation, it ruins the moment,” he smiled and looked at me.
I smiled back and said, “ok.”
When we finally checked into the hotel Natalie, Araceli, and I all shared a room since we knew that we were going to talk a lot during the vacation. Ellie needs her privacy, of course, probably sitting in the balcony looking for cute Brazilian boys. Aizan has his own room and so did my dad.
" Knock Knock," Aizan said while he was knocking on our door. I opened it and I was completely stunned. He was wearing his swimming trunks without a shirt.
"Are you guys ready?" He said with a smile. Then he looked at all three of us, fully dressed with jeans and a shirt. "Guess not. You guys get ready while I wait here.
" Alright," we all agreed. The three of changed into our swim suits.
" Come on, let's catch a taxi to the beach!" Ellie screamed out of no where.
"Ouch!" We all complained.
" Ew! What are you wearing?" She insulted me. I was wearing a red swimsuit with white polka dots and a little bow at the top, near the chest. And she was wearing a striped swim suit, which was a two piece, the stripes were green, beige, then white and so on.
"Actually," We all looked at Aizan, " I think it looks nice on her." I looked at him with a bewildered and shocked expression on my face. I blushed when he looked at me and smiled, he also winked at the same time. Usually, when I blush I'm a cherry red, but this time it was different, I had a new shade of red, crimson red. I guess all of the blood went into my head, causing a new type of blush for me, this time.
" I think Aizan likes you," Araceli told me in a whisper chuckling at the same time, Natalie heard and nodded.
"In all of our dreams," I was always so negative, I hate it. Aizan looked at us, wondering about our conversation, or maybe he heard...
" Come on let's get going!" I tugged on Araceli and Natalie's arms. I wanted the conversation to end; hopefully nobody remembers what this conversation was about.
I looked out the window of the taxi and was wondering about the conversation we had earlier. I was totally tuned out of the real world. Everybody was talking in the taxi, but me. I heard everything but I didn't bother listening. What if Aizan did like me, but what if he didn't? These thoughts only made it harder for me to stay on a whole vacation with Aizan. It made it harder to be just one of his friends. Tears almost swelled up in my eyes, but then I suddenly caught Aizan looking at me with a perplexed look. I quickly wiped my eyes hoping no droplets of tears seemed to fall down. Then, I got really mad at the thoughts of me not trusting myself to be his friend anymore. We have been friends for about four years, yet we still barely know anything about each other. I still never met his parents. Or his siblings if he even has any.
Somebody was calling me, then pulling and pushing on my shoulder, " Keira, Keira, we're here, at the beach come on let's go," it was Aizan.
" Oh. Right, sorry."
So we walked toward the beach, actually we ran.
"This is so cool! The beach is so, so...um... darn it I forgot what I was gonna say," Ellie was a complete idiot.
"That's believable enough for me," I teased.
"You..." she didn't finish, "Never mind."
I saw Aizan giving her a piercing look. How does he do that? Was it his eyes, face, or what? Can he manipulate people? It kept me wondering, more than ever since I met Aizan.
" Keira, you seem to be acting, like, not yourself, today. What's wrong?" Aizan seemed somewhat "concerned", I think.
"Uh, nothing," I smiled a huge smile, but my eyes still held the pondering look in them.
" Hmm..." He wasn't convinced, definitely not. I barely smiled; I pretty much gave it away.
So we all played volleyball and took a swim in the beautiful clear aqua blue water. We had tons of fun. But then we all headed back toward the hotel. Everybody ran to the rooms. Aizan and I decided to walk along behind them. I fought myself to not look at him.
" So, Keira, did you have fun?" he asked looking forward.
" Uh, yeah." We were at the door of my suite.
"Well, get a good night's sleep. Tomorrow we're all heading to the rainforest's of Brazil," he said smiling.
" Okay," I whispered, a blush followed.
Araceli, Natalie, and I had separate beds. I had trouble sleeping. So much for a good night's sleep. Around one o' clock in the morning I finally fell asleep.
I was the first one to wake up. I slept 'till eight in the morning. I felt so languorous so I made myself some coffee. I usually never drink coffee, I’m more of the tea and jamba juice kind of person, but this was an acception to coffee. I just sat there in my pajamas thinking about today. What's going to happen? I hoped nothing weird would happen between Aizan and me today. I was such and idiot to think about these things.
I tried to take a sip of coffee, but then I noticed the whole cup was finished. So I got up and took a nice shower. The hot water of the shower made it much clearer for me to think. Nothings better than a nice hot shower in the morning to make you feel fresh and tingly inside. I put on a nice blue shirt with no sleeves and capris. It was going to be hot and I wouldn't want those nasty bugs biting me the whole way there. I got out and dried my hair.
It was now nine thirty in the morning. Suddenly, I heard someone knocking on the door of our suite. So, I opened it and was surprised. It was Aizan.
" What are you doing up so early in the morning. We're all on vacation, shouldn't you be sleeping in?" I asked.
" I should be asking YOU that." We both laughed. So we just stood there afterwards. I felt like my mind had a blankout.
"So...Can I come in?"
"Uh..Sure, yeah," I'm so stupid. I felt like smacking my head, but then he would have noticed and thought I was weird.
He sat down on the couch. It looked like it was high quality. It was patterned with white and gray stripes. I sat down on the floor next to him. I crossed my legs and rested my head on the couch cushion.
" So why did you wake up early?" He asked, then reached out to take a candy from the little crystal cup on the coffee table.
" I couldn't sleep," I confessed.
He unwrapped the candy and put it in his mouth, then set the wrapper on the table, "Why?"
"Why what?" I took the wrapper and started to play with it.
" Why did you wake up so early? Bad dream?" I looked up at him, and then I noticed he was looking at me with his usual gorgeous smile.
" No I didn't have a bad dream. I just couldn't sleep."
" Well, that explains everything,” he chuckled a little.
" Ok. I just had a hard time sleeping because I was thinking about stuff."
" What stuff?"
"Do you always have a question to ask me?" I sounded a little rude at the beginning of the sentence then it got nicer towards the end.
"Sorry. I didn't try to make you angry," He whispered. I saw his smile fade as he was talking.
" It's ok, I just have a bad temper sometimes."
" Well, it's getting pretty late. We don't want to get to the rainforest late, why don't you wake up Natalie and Araceli? Then we'll wake Ellie up.” We both looked at the digital clock on the table next to the couch.
" Alright." I got up and threw away the candy wrapper.
I got to Natalie's and Araceli's bed and yelled at them.
" Ugh," they both complained under their blankets.
" Aizan! Will you come in here and help me flip their beds' over!" I yelled out.
"Aizans here!" Natalie got up and ran towards me.
"What's he doing here!" Araceli yelled at me.
" Get ready before he see's you guys like this. If you don't get ready I'll tell Aizan come in here," I threatened.
" Liar, he's not here," Natalie gave me those shifty eyes.
" Go check for yourself." They both peaked through a crack of the open door and ran to me.
"Keira, your so mean."
" Get used to it," I smiled, but they knew I was kidding.
I went back to Aizan and sat next to him on the couch.
" What was all of that about?" Aizan gave me a face.
"What?"
" You know, about flipping the beds over?"
"Oh! That? Well, they don't know that your here. So, I pretty much tried making them mad by telling them that your here."
"But, they didn't believe you."
"Yup. So they checked it out themselves. And turns out they really did get mad at me."
The two got out of the room and they looked really mad.
" What a pleasant surprise," Natalie totally faked her smile. It was easy to see. I bet even Aizan could tell.
" I'm hungry." Araceli's stomach grumbled.
"Oh! That's right I made some coffee for you guys. Go ahead and have some if you want."
"Coffee?" They looked at me with a confused face.
" Yeah."
" Since when do you drink coffee?" Natalie, Araceli, and Aizan looked at me perplexed.
"Well, I couldn't sleep." I confessed, again.
" We'll get some food after we wake up Ellie."
"'Kay" All of us girls agreed.
We got to Ellie's room and knocked on the door. She wouldn't wake up. We knocked again. Still, she didn't wake up. Aizan and I both kicked the door. Same response.
" Here, let me take care of this."
"Be my guest."
"WAKE UP, ELLIE!!!" I yelled out so loud that four of the hotel rooms near us opened their doors and scolded us.
She, finally, opened up.
"What?" She said with a whiney voice and was rubbing her eyes.
"Get ready." Aizan told her.
"What? Aizan! My hair is a complete mess! Don't look! Wait out here and I'll tell you guys when to come in." She slammed the door on our faces. Aizan looked at me with a confused face. I just shrugged back at him. We waited in front of her door forever. Natalie and I got so bored we started to play stupid hand games. For example, Chopsticks.
After, thirty minutes or so she finally opened the door.
"I'm ready!" she pronounced.
"I think we already know that. Wait! Oh no! Ellie, a strand of your hair is out of place!" I teased.
"What?! No!" She slammed the door on our faces, again. I groaned. Everybody else got mad at me.
"Sorry..." I gave them the sorry face.
"Keira, Why do you always use that sorry face?! It's total torture!" Natalie forgives me in the weirdest ways. Last time she forgave me by buying me a pack of beef jerky. I held my sorry face. (Hopefully she'll buy me something again.)
"We forgive you,: Aizan smiled including a thumbs up.
"thanks," I smiled back.
Ellie, finally got out, again, "There! All better!"
"Ellie, you are so dumb..." I sighed.
"Meanie!"
"Idiot"
"Lard-face!"
"Girls cut it out!" Aizan got in between us, " I swear you two can be so immature," he sighed. He took my hand and pulled me away from her. "there, Keira just stay away. And, Ellie, you stay away from Keira."
"Seriously, Aizan, you don’t have to treat us like babies," I pulled my hand away, blushing. And stuck out my tongue at Ellie.
"Apparently, I do. You two act just like babies."
"But, I’m the cute one, right?!" Ellie pointed at herself.
"No comment."
"Hey!" she got mad," you don’t mean Keiras the cute one?"
He hesitated,"um...Come on, let's get going. we need 2 get some breakfast. We want to get there early don’t we?"
I wonder why he suddenly changed the subject.
"why did he just ignore me like that?" Ellie whispered.
* * *
We ate at a buffet.
"Yum!" Araceli got up from the table and quickly came back with four full plates. I just ate the fruit. Sometimes, I would go get some sushi.
"Araceli! Don't just force yourself to eat all of it!" Natalie looked at Araceli picking food from all of her plates one at a time.
"I don't force myself! I want to eat it! And it's all so yummy!" She finished all the plates, " Time for dessert."
Aizan, Natalie, and I were not surprised. We always eat together at the mall. The only person who was freaked out was Ellie.
Araceli came back with two plates of cake, two cups of crème brulee, two plates of conolies, one plate of cheesecake, and three ice-cream cones.
"I'm surprised that she doesn't get fat," I made an almost disgusted face.
" Hey! Don't forget that my second favorite thing is sports, but food is always first."
Aizan came back with four plates of dessert.
" Here," He handed me two plates of cake. He gave one to Natalie, and kept one for himself.
"Uh...one plate is enough, Aizan. And thank you," I pushed away the other plate.
"Oh....then, Ellie you can have it."
"No thank you. I'm not eating it, Keira touched it!" she crossed her arms.
"Idiot," I whispered mostly to myself.
"Then who wants it?" Aizan sat down to eat his cake.
"Me!"Araceli raised her arm.
"Of course..." Natalie said.
"Here," Aizan handed her the plate.
So we all ate our desserts and talked for a while.
"Well, we're done. How much should we tip?” I asked.
"Don't worry I'll tip and pay the bill, you guys go on ahead. I'll catch up," He said that while going through his wallet.
"You sure?"
" Yeah, go on," he spoke fast.
So I walked on ahead. I wonder why he wanted us to leave? I could have paid for it, but he would probably take the money and give it back to me or my dad.
"hey," Aizan caught up to me.
"What the-" How did he catch up without me noticing, "How'd you catch up so fast?"
"I jogged half the way and walked the rest. You were walking kinda slow," He stared off into the distance.
"Oh. Yeah, I was thinking again," I tried to see what he was looking at.
"If I asked you what you were thinking about, are you gonna get mad at me again?"
"Hmm...Yeah."
He chuckle in a whisper. Then we just walked, but it was a quiet walk.
* * *
"Come on get in the car," Aizan opened the passenger door for us.
"When did you rent a car?" I sat down on the front passenger seat.
He got in and slammed the door, " I got one when I forced you girls to shop for a while."
"That wasn't very fun," I said that while he was buckling his seatbelt.
"You’re a girl, therefore you shop. Translation: Shopping is your life. Shouldn't you know that?" He turned the key and the car, for some odd reason, sounded like it was coughing.
" Very funny," I mumbled.
"Dang! This car is old!" Natalie pointed out.
"Well, it was the cheapest. Don’t complain at least we have a type of transportation," Aizan turned around to talk to her.
"God, your jut like my dad, I came on this trip to stay away from him," Natalie folded her arms.
Aizan ignored her.
It was a silent trip. I'm happy nothing weird happened, so far. Hopefully, nothing weird will happen later on.
* * *
“Here we are,” Aizan was looking for a parking lot, “Now help me find a place to park.”
“Um… I think I see one right over there, to the left,” I pointed to the vacant space next to the beige Toyota Camry.
“That’s a great spot, it’s in the shade so the car won’t get hot. Thanks Keira,” he smiled when he looked at me.
We got out of the car and as soon as we did, “Keira, catch!” Natalie threw the camera to me. It fumbled out of my hand and was close to hitting the ground until Aizan caught it.
“And saved! Nice catch Aizan!” She gave him a thumbs up.
“Thanks,” he handed me the camera.
“It’s like you have super abilities or something your always catching those,” I stared at him.
“Yeah, maybe the Flash should retire and I can take over his job. Let’s go ask him!” he said sarcastically.
“Haha. Very funny. Maybe you should be a new super hero called Annoying Lad.”
“Touché”
“Keira go and take pictures while I video tape,” Natalie already started videotaping.
“I don’t see why Aizan or Araceli can’t do it. Why do I have to take pictures?”
“Well, because every time you take a picture it turns out really nice. Like that time you took a picture of our 8th grade graduation. The lighting was perfect.”
“Ugh. Why me? Why?”
“It’s the mad skills you never knew about,” Aizan tapped my shoulder then laughed.
“Shut up!” I stuck my tongue out at him then I hit him on the head with the camera bag.
“Hey!” Then we both started chasing eachother. I was to fast for him. I happened to be on the track team in school. I took pictures of him chasing me, it was hilarious.
I stopped then looked forward for a while and when I looked back he wasn’t there. When I looked behind me I practically jumped out of my skin. The camera did too.
“Hah! I got it!” He smacked me on the head then he erased all the pictures that I took of him.
“How the heck did you do that?! You almost gave me a heart attack!” I hit him on the arm.
“I took a shortcut behind the car over there,” He pointed at the green Jeep.
Natalie and Araceli ran towards us.
“What the heck was all of that about?” Natalie stared at us with a confused face.
“It was her fault. She started it!” He pointed at me with both index fingers beside both sides of my head.
“Ugh! Don’t act like a 5 year old!” We both laughed.
Araceli neared me and whispered in my ear, “I told you. You like him and he likes you. You two look so cute together,” She giggled.
“Shut up!” I pushed her away. Then Natalie asked her on what she told me. When she heard she giggled too and nodded when I looked at her.
“What are you guys all happy about?” Ellie hates being left out.
“Nothing,” we all said then we all tried to muffle our laughs.
“ I’m not stupid, now what are you guys so happy about and what are you laughing at?”
“ I can’t answer that because apparently I, for one, think you are stupid. Therefore, you are out of the topic and don’t need to know because of your stupidity,” I love to annoy her.
“I hate you.”
“I know.”
So we just walked from there, just sight seeing and taking pictures most of the time.
"Wait guys, just stop here for a sec and take a picture. this place looks really nice."Natalie hastily unfastened the strap on her camera bag and took her camera out.
She held it up to her eye.
"Okay you guys, Let me take a picture of you."Natalie announced.
Everyone huddled all together.
"Blah, I hate pictures!"Araceli announced.
"Shut up! Natalie, take it already!"Ellie demanded.
Aizan was at the far end of the corner standing next to me. Natalie had already taken the shot.
"Oh no! What if I came out bad?"I thought. Everyone walked to the camera in order to see how they came out. Ellie ran up first. I neared Aizan while walking.
"Heh, I always come out good,"Ellie bragged.
I was to afraid to look so I just turned a little.
"Don't worry Keira, you came out good."Aizan had said and neared me again.
"Eh??uhh...-wha.-What?"I blushed and did not know what to say."Uh..um...thanks."
I couldn't help, but feel good about myself, after Aizan had said that.
"Keira, you're red."Araceli stated and i smacked her softly on the back of her head.
"Eh??What?! No I'm not!"I stuttered.
"Ahaha, leave these two people alone."Natalie demanded as she was walking off somewhere.
"And where are you going?"Araceli wondered.
Natalie turned around.
"Just going to take some pics of the forest scenery."Natalie replied while holding the camera up to her cheek as if going to take a picture. She smiled and then went on walking. "Well, Bye Bye!"
She waved her hand in back of her while not even taking a glance back.
