Annabel Lea Lakewell had never been this scared in her life, not even when she was almost ran over, or when she was almost killed by a bear, not even the time when she almost drowned. After all her near death experiences, this had to be the worst, and she wasn’t even the one almost being killed this time. No the difference between this time and any of her other brush with deaths, her parents where being targeted. See it happened just 10 minutes ago, they where sitting in the living room watching TV, just her and her mother and father. Annabel had gone up stairs to fetch a blanket from her room when the front door was smashed open. Peeking down from the second floor, hiding behind the railings, she watched as a masked man came bursting into her house, gun pointed at her beautiful mother. It was at this point Annabel ran to her room, locking herself in and hiding in her closet. She saw that look in her mother’s eyes that told her to run, and she always listened to her mother. Staring at her wristwatch she watched as the minutes tick by, hearing the banging and crashing and screams going on downstairs and imagining the worst. She didn’t even think to grab a phone, just ran into her closet and tried to block out the noise. When 15 minutes passed all was silent but still she waited another 5 minutes before she crept out of her closet, and eased open her door. Creeping towards the stairs she peered down into her destroyed living room, straining to listen for any noise. By this time her heart was beating so fast it felt like it would leap out of her chest. Unease curled around inside of her, something wasn’t right. Slowly walking down the stairs, careful not to make a noise, she walked towards the phone and picked it up, dialling 911 as she walked. Just as she reached the kitchen was when the woman on the other end answered. A scream split the air as Annabel ran forward; stumbling into over turn chairs and cutting her feat open on broken glass. There, lying in a pool of their own blood was her mother and father on the ground. Sobbing Annabel collapsed between her parents, screaming at them to answer her. Her mother has a knife sticking out of her chest, her father multiple wounds in his. Clutching the phone with now blood slicked hands she brought it to her face. She screamed into the phone that her parents where hurt, not wanting to admit the truth that they where dead even to herself, demanding that the woman save them, crying as she told the lady her address. After she did so she let the phone drop from her hands, collapsing onto her mother’s chest and trying to stop the bleeding.
People often said Annabel took after her mother in everything, from her looks to her personality to even the way she walked. She was like a miniature clone of her mother, and because of that the two shared a bond that was so deep that they seemed to always know if the other was ok or not. Both had beautiful long blonde hair, that has so many natural streaks and highlights it was like a mix of all the different shades of blonde hair on one head, the effect leaving it almost stunning for every moment seemed to cause a new shade to be shown. Both mother and daughter had eyes as blue as the sky, they seemed to always radiate warmth and sparkle with happiness. Both females had a small form, with slight curves and long legs, almost making them look like little fairies for they just seemed to dance when ever they walked. But the most remarkable thing about both females was probably their talents in music, where as Annabel’s mother had a voice like an angel Annabel could play practically any instrument, seeming to master it in no time. Together the two could make music that could move you, bring tears to your eyes or a smile to your face, and this music was something both had a passion in. The only thing Annabel seemed to get from her father was a smile that could light up a room and draw even the most mean or shy people in, and the way that people seemed to flock to her.
But both her father’s and mother’s light where now extinguished and even though Annabel knew this deep down, she refused to acknowledge it. So Crying over her mother body was how the police and paramedics found Annabel. Taking her away they tried to get a story out of her but all she could do was cry, and finally after the tears dried up was staring off into space. With her parent’s death Annabel seemed to die also, she shut herself down and her face took on an almost empty look. So the police took her away and put her into the hospital, not sure what to do with her. She had no other family; she was alone in the world…unable to deal with her parent’s death. So finally a woman with red hair so light it looked almost pink, and a charming smile that could bewitch most men, and eyes the color of Safire’s, stepped forward. She was a teacher but also a part time psychologist, and quickly took to Annabel, some how unable to let the 17 year old girl. So this 20 year old woman named Sabrina, decided she would adopt Annabel, deciding she needed a mother and someone who knew how to deal with this kind of thing. SO a couple days later Sabrina was bringing Annabel home.
*~*~*
Life for Jacob Saint Xavier was quite simply hard. He never ever got a break in life and was constantly dealing with one stress or another problem. When he was four his father died, driving her mother into a depression so deep not even his cries of hurt or hunger could bring some life into the woman he called mom. He watched as his mother’s once glossy black hair seemed to dull like her blue eyes that used to be full of life. He watched as she grew skinner and skinner, her cheeks seeming to shrink and her body almost looking like a skeleton. He watched her so much that he noticed all these changes in her but not himself, so little he didn’t know that he would die soon along with his mother if he didn’t get help. Somehow hope did come, but it was in the form of a man with large arms Jacob used to think they where as big as a tree trunk. The man was the landlord and had busted down the door when he didn’t get his rent for the month. Instead of kicking his mother out the man, who Jacob came to learn was called Jack, seemed to nurse his mother and in turn himself back to health. In a couple of months Jacob was his carefree self again, and his mother seemed to be full of life, happy as can be. In a couple more months Jack and Marry (his mother) married and Jacob thought it would be great. But when he was 6 years old, he started to learn that life wasn’t as great as he thought it would be living with Jack. Jack would often get so mad he would slap or shove or throw things at his mother, often leaving her in tears and bruises. His mother put up with this for a year, before unable to deal with it and ran away, leaving Jacob alone with his step father. You see Jack couldn’t deal with the leaving of Mary, and was still an angry old buffoon, so he turned to beating up his 7 year old son. It wasn’t big things at the beginning, just a slap or being thrown to the ground. But as he grew up the beatings got worst as Jack got poor and angrier, having been fired from multiple jobs for his anger problems. So poor Jacob would often be beaten into unconsciousness, or go to the hospital (if he was lucky) with broken bones and bruises. His body was covered in scars b the age of 10, and he had broken numeral bone in his body. But by then Jacob knew he had to get away, so he ran away from home when he was 11, a cast once again on his right arm. He lived on the streets, eating out of dumpsters and living in any kind of shelter he could fine. Like this he lived, learning to survive on his own and actually loving it for here he didn’t get beaten, here on the streets he could be free. But when he was 15 he was brought in by the police for trying to steal a chocolate bar, and they found out he lived on the streets and was put into a foster home.
So for the last 3 years he was bounced from house to house…until now. See Jacob might have finally caught a break when a beautiful woman walked into his current schools principle office where he was. The beautiful woman’s name was Sabrina, and apparently she wished to speak to his current foster parents. So he was sent to wait outside as his parents where called in. Later that day he found out Sabrina was a teacher at a school in the next city over, and had adopted a daughter last year named Annabel, who apparently was now 18. He learned that Sabrina wish to take him into her care for a while, to see if she could shape him up. So once again he packed his bags and was shipped away, this time to a two story house that was the color of light blue and had a large backyard. And this time he would be sharing it with a female his age, who upon first sight he thought she just might be one of those little creatures with wings, a fairy. She walked down the hall, seeming to glide across the floor and stopped in front of them about 5 feet away, her eyes turning to Sabrina, narrowed and seeming to flash in anger. “Who is this?” she asked the beautiful woman next to me, her voice clipped in anger. Sabrina just kicked off her shoes and ruffled the girl’s long blonde hair that fell to her waist with a small laugh. “Annabel, this is Jacob, you two will be living together, think of it as you two are siblings for the time being” she said, her voice cheerful. She then left to walk upstairs, leaving the two teens together. Annabel just looked at Jacob, anger still on her face as she pursed her lips, looking him over. Giving a small shrug the female just turned and walked up the stairs, leaving Jacob baffled, staring after her.
