The bar wasn’t all that grungy, but it wasn’t all that clean either. There were parts of the floor that were sticky, where people had spilled their drinks, and slick, where people had done… other things. Yes, best not to go into the ladies bathroom. That handicapped stall? It was a nightmare. But overall it wasn’t all that bad, and hey, they had a karaoke machine. Now, normally this small group of friends wouldn’t be caught dead at this bar on this night anywhere near that machine… but it was a certain blond girl’s birthday, and she didn’t know the meaning of the word ‘no’ on a good day, let alone her date of birth.

A voice was squawking from the small stage that they were all huddled about, completely ignored by the passed out drunk man two tables down. It was a blessing, Chris thought humbly, as he stood at the microphone. The things he would let his little blond sister-friend talk him into… “It’s the end of the world as we know it—“

“No it’s not!” called a voice from the darkness directly below the stage, and Chris’ eyebrows furrowed.

******** Cid. He was making this much harder than it had to be. “Well it could be,” Chris argued back, into the microphone, the music continuing on without him.

“No it can’t. That don’t make a goddamn lick of sense.”

As Chris started to reply, he was quite rudely interrupted by someone he wasn’t expecting to get booed by. “Boooo! Get off the stage!” God almighty, even Mikkal was drunk…

“I will when you stop dying your hair like a p***y!”

“I don’t dye my hair!” Mikkal sputtered, and Chris grinned.

“Like hell you don’t! Izzy, let me be the first to tell you about the first time I found Mik in the bathroom with the hair dye--”

Luke just shook his head. He should stop coming to these outings… His eyes looked to Mik as he stumbled onto the stage, trying to wrestle the microphone from Chris’ hands, Cid grinning like an idiot and meeting Izzy shot for shot… Life would be a little dull then.
