Epilogue
Five years later, a scientist named Roze Namizuka found the cure to a particular blindness. She immediately operated on a childhood friend. That friend was venerated artist Yuki Wakamiya. She can now see, and the painting she has created hangs in each and every museum, library, and art school. “Midnight Sight,” the painting that Yuki Wakamiya made, even hangs in Roze Namizuka’s office. Some even say that if you look closely, you can see the part of Yuki’s soul in the center of the dark abyss called night. And as I, Roze Namizuka, sit in my room typing this, Yuki is playing with Tobi and listening to a song called “Sekai no Hate Made (Until the world’s end)”
Wazurewashii toko kara hanarete Habatakita katta dake (I just want to get away from this annoying place and spread my wings.)
Mou kodomo ja nai no ni to Nando jibun wo shikatta darou (How many times now have I scolded myself, saying “I’m not a child anymore?”)
Kinou made no bokura ni bye bye Miagereba hoshi ga (If you look up at the stars, from yesterday, they’re waving goodbye to our old selves.)
Houseki mitai na yozora wa Yaritai koto afureteru (The night sky, sparkling like a jewel, overflows with unfulfilled desires.)
Surinuke kata ya noritsugi ni mayou yori (Rather than wandering down shortcuts and detours)
Yakusoku sareta basho made hitasura susumu dake sa (I’ll just keep moving forward until I reach the promised place.)
Bokura no tsubasa wa honmono no totemo totemo kirei na hana dakara (Our wings are real, and truly, truly beautiful)
Donna hageshii ookina kaze ni mou makenai (so we won’t lose, no matter how fiercely the wind may blow)
Tooku e tooku e hitasura tobun da (We’ll just keep flying straight ahead, far, far into the distance)
Hora mou kaze ni natte (Look, we’ve become the wind, and now we can smile)
Anna ni namida korae ta hi mo Waraeru kara (even about those days when we held back so many tears.)
Zutto kesenai terebi tada mitsumete Waratte tahibi (In those days we’d do nothing but laugh and stare at the TV.)
Densha no naka tsukareta Kao de nemuru otona kurashi o kakaete (Now I’m an adult, sleeping on a train, with an exhausted face, trying to make a living.)
Umareta machi made tsurete iku yo Kimi ni misete agetai (I’m taking you to the town where I was born, because I want to show it to you.)
Nannimonai toko dakedo Fuusha ga mawaru okae (There isn’t really anything there, but we’ll go to a hill with a spinning windmill)
Tokidoki bokura wa Goal o miushinai (Sometimes we don’t achieve our goals,)
Kibou mo yume mo munashikute Uchinomesareru (our hopes and dreams become in vain, and we get knocked down.)
Bokura no tsubasa wa nisemono no totemo totemo kitanai kamikire de (Our wings were fake, and truly, truly dirty scraps of paper,)
Honno sukoshi no chiisana kaze de yabureta (easily torn by the slightest bit of wind.)
Nando mo nando mo korogari mawatte (We fell down over and over again,)
Demo made iji o hatte (yet we didn’t give up,)
Akirame nigedasu waka ni wa ika nakattayo (because we couldn’t afford to throw in the towel and run away)
Bokura no tsubasa wa honmono no totemo totemo kirei na hana dakara (Our wings are real, and truly, truly beautiful,)
Donna hageshii ookina kaze ni mou makenai (so we won’t lose, no matter how fiercely the wind may blow.)
Tooku e tooku e hitasura tobun da (We’ll just keep flying straight ahead, far, far into the distance.)
Hora mou kaze ni natte (Look we’ve become the wind, and now we can smile,)
anna ni namida korae ta hi mo waraeru kara (even about those days when we held back so many tears)
Kinou made no bokura ni bye bye (If you look up at the stars from yesterday, they’re waving goodbye to our old selves.)
Miagereba hoshi ga Houseki mitai na yozora wa Yaritai koto afureteru (The night sky, sparkling like a jewel, overflows with unfulfilled desires,)
Sekai no hate made (until the world’s end…)
