Chapter 3
War for Control

Chapter Three

In the beginning she had everything a child could want, loving parents, beautiful home, and a sibling to keep her company. But something made her snap. She joined a gang in her early teen years and stole from the villagers for fun. Yet, something made her want more, as she turned eighteen she overthrew the original leader of the gang and claimed it for herself. Then spotting the empty throne, she took that for herself too. At first she led the army to the villages herself then appointed others to do it for her, now she sits on the throne, a master piece in itself; a gold frame with red velvet cushions stuffed with feathers. It was once respected by its master, sat on gently, back straight, chin up. Now, it was used to lounge in, the legs of its new master were thrown over the arm. The master was dressed in black leather pants, black halter top and black high heeled boots. The master, Roku, a beauty herself, slim, curvy figure, deep red hair, seductive green eyes, with the blue ring of the Telek’s, and long delicate fingernails painted her favorite colour; blood red. She set her eyes on an obvious new recruit. He flinched under her gaze and stood rigid.

“Are Jin and the soldiers back, yet?” She asked in a very bored tone.

“N-no ma’am, n-n-not yet” He was clearly shaking all over. Roku smirked and rose from her seat slowly. She walked down the red carpeted stairs to the soldier and leaned in so her nose was nearly touching his.

“Boo.” She smirked as he fainted. She laughed walking back up to the throne then turned with a fierce look in her eyes “What kind of soldiers do I have!?” She yelled, making the remaining platoon jump. She looked down at the soldier. “Kill him, I’m not having weaklings in my army” She sat down on her throne again. One of her favorites stepped forward, Dukaro aka Dukaro the Strangler, dressed in black shirt, leather pants, knee high boots hidden under a long black leather trench coat. A large blade decorated with dragons hung from his side. His eyes were hidden under thick black hair and he was a master of necromancy. He was one of few that Roku knew by name, either because she knew them from the old gang or she hand picked them herself. Dukaro dragged the awaking soldier into the darkness. He gripped the poor soldier by the neck and squeezed every last breath out of him, then dropped him to the floor. That’s why he was her favorite. He stepped out of the darkness and bowed.

“Your wish has been granted, my Queen” He smiled cruelly.

“You’re such a cruel b*****d, Dukaro.” She smiled as she lowered herself onto the throne again.

“Because I know how much it pleases you, my Queen.” He kept his eyes to the floor in respect and only ever spoke when spoken to.

“Have you seen Shyna around?” She crossed her legs and looked around.

“No ma’am.”

“Troublesome girl…” Roku growled. “I have a job for you, Dukaro.” She pulled out a torn picture as her favorite minion made his way towards her. The picture had a young girl on it and was slightly torn in places, she handed the picture to Dukaro with a frown, as if she didn’t really want to part with it. “This girl…she’s an enemy and I want her brought to me alive along with anyone else who is with her.”

Dukaro studied the picture and a sinister smile slowly spread across his face. “You will not be disappointed.” He slid the picture into his armor.

“Be on your way then.” Roku waved her hand idly and Dukaro stood. He made his way to the stables and led out a dark gray horse with a black mane that was covered in black armor. He led it out of the castle grounds and into the forest; he released the rein and knelt on one knee, placing one hand on the ground. A second later eight black skeletons pulled themselves from the ground with an ear splitting screech and stood at attention in front of their master, Dukaro pulled the picture out and showed it to them.

“This is the girl we’re after and we need her alive!” He closed his eyes for a moment. “Dark beings, lead me to this girl!” When he opened them again he cast his gaze to the sky as a cloud formed into an arrow. The skeletons looked up at it and set off in the direction it was pointing to, Dukaro mounted his horse and followed them knowing that he would not fail.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Tonya…Tonya, wake up.” A voice stirred her from her slumber and she slowly opened her eyes.

“What is it Storm?”

“Its sun up, you want to go to that meeting right?” He pulled her to her feet and she yawned.

“That’s right. Have you changed your mind?”

Storm let out a deep sigh. “It seems so since there’s nothing else to do, but I will not promise to join your ‘army’.”

“I never said you had to.” She started off towards the mountain with Storm in tow. They were silent during their travel as they made their way up the steep, weaving paths; Tonya stopped outside her cave and told Storm to wait, ducking inside and returning with a long sword in a brown sheath, placing it on her back and continuing on.

“You know if you had had that with you yesterday you might have been able to cut yourself free from my snare.” He stated and Tonya glared over her shoulder at him. “Just saying!”

“It’s not much further.” She muttered.

“How have the Kings made it up here?”

“There’s a path on the other side of the mountain that leads down to the next country, Equoya, at the top is a small forest clearing where the paths meet. That’s where this meeting is.”

“How do you know this?” His brow rose.

“You don’t live up here for months and not wander around.” They suddenly stepped into the forest and the path steepened, and after a few more minutes of walking the pair stepped out into a clearing. Three Kings were gathered around a round stone table and behind one of them stood a man with dark hair and blue eyes; he was wearing a dark brown leather vest over a black shirt with large holes in it, black pants and brown leather boots. On his back sat a large pack of arrows and a bow, as the pair approached he drew his bow and an arrow, pulling the cord back ready to fire.

“State your name and purpose for being here.” He growled. “But be warned, if it is to harm any of these Kings I will take you down.”

“It isn’t.” Tonya pulled the sword from its sheath and stuck it into the ground, the knife followed shortly after. “I’m Tonya, from Bolian, and I’ve come to help.”

“I’m Storm, and I’m just tagging along.” He dropped his sheathed sword to the ground as Tonya did.

The Kings and the man studied the pair for a moment before one of the Kings spoke up, the King of Equoya. “She’s a Telek! Kill her Raduko!”

“Yes sir.” Raduko released the bow, it flew silently through the air and stopped just millimeters from Tonya’s chest, she grabbed it and snapped it in two.

“Yes I am a Telek, but I’m the only one who can stop Roku since she is a Telek herself, there is no other way you can defeat her.” She kept her eyes fixed on the King in the middle, the King that had ordered her death. The other two Kings looked from Tonya to their equal and back again. All three Kings were aged with long white beards, they were dressed in the finest garments and each had a gold crown dressed with jewels.

“What makes you think you can defeat Roku?” The King from Litra, which was sat in the Equoya King’s right, spoke up. “Do you really think that because you are from the same race you would have a chance?” He began to laugh and the King from Fraya, sat across from him, laughed with him. The King of Equoya and his body guard Raduko did nothing, but Raduko watched as Storm moved to lean against a tree.

“Litra, Fraya.” Tonya called the Kings by their countries. “Where are your guards?”

“Excuse me?” Fraya glared at the girl.

“Where are your body guards? Equoya has one.” She smirked; she had little to no respect for the Kings or any authority figure, a bit like Roku. “Roku killed them, didn’t she?”

“Her sister…” Equoya spoke up which drew the group’s attention to him, the oldest and wisest of the three. He shook his head. “Never mind. How do you plan to defeat an evil like her?”

“By fighting fire with fire, I just need an army to hold off her men.” She explained.

“How many men?”

“A thousand…maybe more-three thousand.”

“Done.” He nodded and the other two Kings turned to him, eyes wide with shock.

“But why?” Litra asked. “It’s madness; she can’t defeat the leader of the Seifuku alone.”

“He’s right, why waste all those men for nothing?” Fraya argued.

Equoya raised his hand for silence, his eyes fixed on Tonya the entire time. “What do you know about the Seifuku?”

“They’re built mostly of thugs and thieves, men without a care and prisoners from villages. Roku’s main men are Jin, Shyna and Dukaro the Strangler, each more ruthless than the last even though Jin is just a common foot soldier.”

“How soon do you need the men?”

“Three days.”

“Five.” Equoya sighed. “We have much recruiting to do.”

“Very well.” She nodded. “Five it is.”

“What will you be doing until then?”

“Dwindling there numbers as best as I can.” She sighed. “It’ll be no easy task.”

Equoya closed his eyes for a moment as he thought and when he opened them again he smiled. “You’re nothing like any Telek’s I’ve come across.” He said in a friendlier tone.

“I was raised by mortals.” She stated. “They couldn’t have children of their own.”

The King nodded and cast his gaze upwards to Raduko. “Raduko accompany Tonya and her friend while we assemble a larger army and meet them at the bottom of the mountain in five days, she mustn’t die.”

“But my lord…” Raduko began to protest but he was silenced.

“Do as I say, protect her as if you were protecting me.”

“Yes sir…” Raduko nodded and watched as Tonya sheathed her sword and brushed the dirt off her knife. “I’ll protect her with my life.”
