“I love him very much. It hurts me when I let him go. Why can’t he forgive me?” she thought.
Her heart still yearns for him, yet she cannot reach him. Lena wanted to hold him, but her affection will just go through him. She wanted to see through that mask of his, see his face. Lena’s heart no longer beat, yet she can still feel the painful chest pain. She wanted him, but she couldn’t have him and this hurt her.
He gave her butterflies, but now she can feel that they had died. She knew that she had betrayed him, and she had paid the ultimate price.
“What I did will never be forgotten, but I repented. Why won’t he comes see me?” she thought.
Lena turned to him, as he started to walk through the snow-covered forest. His fists were clenched. She grew tired of following. When they were younger, she would always follow him, and he was always able to sense her slowing down. He would stop, and take her hand. But now, it is as though she was not there. He did not stop; he kept going, leaving her behind.
"Kakashi..." Lena whispered so gently, but loud enough for him to hear.
She did not receive a respond back. Lena felt her heart drop. Was he truly mad at her? Kakashi never gave her the cold shoulder when they were young, she would always manage to get him to look at her.
“Why did you leave me...” He murmured, continuing to walk.
Lena sadly looked away, following behind.
"Forgive me Kaskashi-dono... I did not mean to leave your side," she answered meekly.
Lena felt the cold breeze pass by her face; it tickled her nose, and played with her hair. Winter was her favorite season. The snow was so pure, and innocent. It calmed her soul when she would look at the white sky, she would always forget about her troubles. She thought about looking up, but Lena knew this time the sky would fail her.
Kaskashi sadly looked down towards the ground, his visible eye was halfway shut. For some reason it pained him to follow their path towards a shrine. He finally halted as he saw the small shrine before him. Lena did the same. She could feel tears start to swell in her eyes, but they did not fall when she blinked. She could no longer cry, nor did she have the strength to smile.
"Kakashi-sama..." she whispered.
Lena sealed her lips as soon as she saw him fall to his knees. Kakashi ignored the cold stinging sensation as he pulled down his mask. She walked towards him; she felt so much guilt in her heart.
"Please Kakashi-sama, don't stay here... Just say goodbye," Lena pleaded, as she seen him take out the golden locket he had given to her when they were children.
Kakashi's face was visible to her. It was years since she had seen his face, and it hurt her to know she could not touch his face anymore.
"You broke our promise,” he whispered as he stood up. His knees buckled, but he managed to stay up straight.
His mask and headband was still on the snowy ground. The heavy snowflakes started to cover them, hiding them from the naked eye.
"You said you would stay by my side... No matter what," he said as he clenched his teeth and he looked into the small shrine.
The shrine was too small for one to enter; only the statue of a god was placed in there. It stone exterior was a bit rusted from its age. Kakashi turned to the tree nearest to the shrine. It stood tall, its leaves were gone, but it still had that beauty.
"Forgive me... For letting you go," he whispered, as he knelt down, he grieved as his hands shook away the snow that hid a stone plate.
Lena walked towards him, kneeling next to him. She touched his shoulder. His eyes flickered as he felt her cold touch. For some reason, she smiled feeling his warm body. She wished she had never made that mistake. Then she could have been with him.
"Kakashi, I'm so sorry," her voice cracked, feeling a tear stream down my face, "I left you with out warning... I didn't even tell you how I felt."
Kakashi looked down at the stone plate. He placed her locket down.
"I never told you about the butterflies you gave me. I never told you how you made me heart skip," she said, as she could hear her voice crack even more, her tears blurred her vision as she became more emotional.
Kakashi closed his eyes, feeling the overwhelming pain in his heart.
"Lena..." Kakashi whispered in sorrow.
"Kakashi, please forgive me... I couldn't stay by your side... I couldn't even hold you," Lena said.
Lena looked down at her tombstone. If he could hear her, she knew he would answer back. She knew he would stop and hold her hand if he thought she was tired. All she wanted was for him to say goodbye. She will wait for him. She'll wait just for him to be her side once again. Till then all she will feel is...
Dead Butterflies.
