The chase is over! My son has heard from 3 of the remaining 4 schools. The only one he's yet to hear a final decision from is Tennessee. He went there last week for an interview... which was a surprise since UT only has at-large seats available. A few days before he was to leave for the interview he received letters from the University of Georgia (UGA), Tuskegee, and Oklahoma State (OSU). All of them sent acceptance letters!!! Even with the acceptances, he still went to the Tennessee interview. He wanted the experience of doing another interview. Also UT is a bigger campus in downtown Knoxville. This differs from the others (slightly smaller campuses in more rural and/or college town areas). He said the interview was much more structured and tougher than the others he's done. He was also impressed with UT's vet school but he said the tuition was too steep (around $38,000 per year).
Oklahoma State is offering an at-large seat. That also means out-of-state tuition ($35,000+). OSU is 16 hours away from here. The tuition and distance are big factors to him... both being too much.
The vet schools at UGA and Tuskegee have contract seats with our state, but both also have at-large seats for SC and other students. Tuskegee's acceptance letter did not mention which he was being offered. When he called, he could not get an answer to this question.
His decision? Starting in August, he'll be going to UGA. The vet school offered him a contract seat, which means he'll only pay the in-state tuition rate (around $13,000). It's one of the premiere vet schools in the Southeast and one of the oldest in the country (established in 1946). It's a bit bigger than Clemson but it's located in a college town. And it's only 3-1/2 hours away from home.
We're very proud of him and his hard work has paid off. We're also thankful to all of you who have been following his progress and keeping him (and all of us) in his thoughts and prayers.
The chase has ended and soon the adventure begins! biggrin heart
