~Yes....I've gone and started another one. -_-~
Dark...everything was so dark. Red eyes, everything viewed through a red veil. The poor soul, never to know what happened to him. A scream ripped from his throat as something hit him, held him down. Hands, clawed and surprisingly weak, gripped him by the head and shoulder. A sharp pain erupted at his throat. Heat, fire was being lost. It felt good, the red. It was pooling in her system. The warm red flowing down her throat.
A whir was all that warned her to the pain. The metallic whir collided with her side. sharp as a blade, her scream rent the air. Collision with the ground and the resounding thud through her back, sticking in her chest, cut it short. Nothing but a ragged gasp with red eyes locked on her assailant remained of it.
"So I take out another dirty beast." A male voice met her, hinting at her demise. It was familiar, but not as warm as she remembered. Where had she heard it? 'I have to know....' She cringed from hid look, those sticks. "No bentans. No bentans...?" They were known throughout Llasehsa. Bentans will kill you with metal to your red.
" 'No bentans. No bentans.' " His voice was mocking. "Why would I not give you bentans?" He held onto his sarcasm, his voice kicking mocking on bentans, the Llasehsan word for his air sticks. (Yay new world air pistols.) This belak seemed familiar, as if he'd known her before. From a time when she was clean, tidy. A time before the walls divided the world.
"Bentans hurt..." Her voice was high, childlike, breaking bentans into 'beentahns.' She turned her head, her whole, thin body turning as it wrapped around itself. Thin, worn clothing hung loosely, hinting that she'd once worn them well, as tight fitting shorts and a slim, once white, tee. "They're scaaaary." Again, a child's taunting story. What was his name?! 'It's preposterous that I should know a phasarah.' (Llasehsan word for 'the clean', meaning someone from the other side of the wall.)
He aimed at her, sticks shaking as his eyes hovered over her ashen skin, the ashen brown hair, the sleepless-night shadows under her eyes, those blood red eyes, the blood on her lips. She avoided his gaze, locking eyes with his gray-green ones before nervously looking away. Those were such scary, piercing eyes he had. 'That's it!' "You wouldn't kill me...Nikkolas would not kill me. Nikkolas would not kill his sister." She shifted again, hugging her legs to her chest and turning to look at his over her shoulder with longing, sad eyes.
He looked different. His hair was more brown than the sandy blond she'd remembered, a little too long hanging at his shoulders. His clothes were practically the same, he was still wearing that vest, lined with silver colored thread but black canvas and nylon on the outer side. But those eye. They gave him away. She'd know him, Nikkolas, anywhere if she could see those eyes.
He stared at her, those eyes causing her to squirm. How would an 'urchin' know his name? He hadn't been trapped back there long enough to be known. He'd slipped through an open portal with the last strength he had after 3 days on this side. "You're right. I wouldn't." His voice was leading up to something. "But...You're NOT my sister." He aimed his air sticks at her, his eyes slightly angry as this creature claimed to know him. They hadn't been out here that long, not long enough to for news of them to spread.
She let out a keening cry, clasping her head and rocking on her heels. In her frightened state, she was speaking rather rapidly. What was more surprising to him was her flawless English. (Well, as flawless as these Americans ever got.) "He's forgot me. He's forgotten me...I'll never get out. Never." She was crying now, something she'd not done in a long time, and tears we streaming through the ash on her face. "Tsume will be killed by Nikkolas." She lapsed into a third person speech pattern,an old habit. She rocked back and forth, head in hands, whining out those statements over and over again.
The air sticks shook in his hands. How many people were there with that name and habit? As far as he knew, there was only one that could pull the speech switch so flawlessly. They...he and the other two, had spent time behind the wall in the early days. They never found Tsume, but they assumed she'd been shipped off to 'better' parts as they had been. After all, Nikkolas was here and he'd lived an ocean away from these three. The weapons dropped with his arms, hanging as he stared at her.
"Tsume....you've been behind them this entire time?" His voice quavered as he thought of the horrors if she had. She'd frozen as he'd spoken, shifting slightly as the sticks lowered. "Tell me...please?" It was more of a statement than a plea. She merely looked at him with a nervous gaze. "Tsume..." He threw her and exasperated glance, a sure sign that he was sure of her identity. A glance the sisters were used to...well, she used to be anyways. She flinched under his gaze once again.
"Tsu..." She bit her lip, trying hard not to lapse into the Tsarkasian speech that was the general norm within Llasesha. "It has been a long time..." She turned the blood red eyes around her, seeking anything that was relief from his eyes. It didn't work, she could still feel them on her.
A new thought lit her eyes as she flicked her head towards him. "My sisters..our sisters...They made it out?" It was the one thought in her mind now. These people who were all she had left. His eyes turned down, avoiding her unnatural, unsettling red eyes. "You don't want to see them." Nikkolas turned away, knowing full well that she'd understand. He 'condition' as indicative of why. "I don't care. They...you can all disown me...But I want to see them." Her speech was still halting, reverting to a foreign tongue she'd once had. Of that one thing she was absolutely certain. She would see them, whether her appearance warranted that or not.
