“Very well,” Marcus said, “The fact is, I’m sure this person may die. Of course, I will do everything within my power to return this person back to you, alive,” His intentions were to kill the person in the first place, but he would never get anywhere saying that, “I thank you for allowing us into your home. Twillight’s Shadow is not a place I get to see very often. You hospitality is well appreciated.”
Sendron was somewhat impressed. Despite her obvious age, and no doubt lack of experience. She held herself high, and had the impression of significance. Such thing will do her well, he thought, “Sendron, would you like something to drink?” Marcus asked him, “Yes Sire, may I have a glass of water?” Marcus turned and repeated the question to their hostess. The older man continued to delve into his thoughts. Just what had happened to the old patriarch of Twilight’s Shadow? I should ask Marcus later, it seems odd. “So, is there anything you would like to ask us?” Lord NightHound asked.
With a wave of her hand she floated a silver trey with a glass pitcher full of ice water and several empty glasses out of a cupboard in a corner and onto the table. "Please help yourself, good sirs." Buying herself a few minutes to think furiously while they both poured glasses and took little sips she finally came to her decision.
Pulling her legs down of the arm of the chair she leaned forward and placed her elbows on the table, looking Marcus straight in the eye she demanded, "I couldn't care less if you slay this person yourself. But I absolutely despise being lied to, or even walked around the bush. I got enough of that from my parents, I wont tolerate it from anyone else. Now tell me the truth, what are you going to use this borrowed person for? And give me plenty of details, please."All the while hoping fervently that she was not pushing her guests too far.
Mother would have known exactly how to twist these two men around her fingers in a matter of moments. I can only hope I had listened well enough to all her bickering to be able to do the same.
Setting his glass down, Marcus retained his playful grin. Wonderful. He thought. This method is much more fun. He pushed back his seat, and motioned Sendron to do the same. They both stood in the meeting room facing her. Marcus began speaking.
"You, my dear lady are in no place to make such demands. Though I am glad you have. One would be a fool to blindly assist another, without knowledge of what the action is or compensation. You have proven yourself in a way, despite age. I do not thing that telling you will cause me trouble. Dismiss your guards and servants, I want as few ears as possible to hear this. And, if I tell you, I want your word you will lend us one of your house."
"Very well then." Standing up she took a firm hold of her staff in both hands. Raising it a foot off the ground she whispered a word of command, then struck it down hard. Sudden swirls of rainbow colored sparks are set racing off in all directions to dissolve into the walls and under the only door leading out of the room.
With a calm expression she informed Marcus, "Now we are not only alone, for my servants and guards are wise to my signals, but we are also shielded against the prying ears of any foolish enough to try and spy on our little meeting. You also have my word that you shall have whomever my first cousin deems suitable for your needs."
With a half bow she directed Marcus and Sendron to once again sit down as she took her own seat. Throwing her legs over the chair arm she settled down with her staff in the crook of her right arm.
