Chronicles of Claive Ilusta
The Journal and log of Claive Ilusta, Kithnalian Immigrant
Homecoming (Chapter 4)
We got to the block where Doriyan and I grew up a while before nightfall, and some of the homes we saw were definitely worse for wear; some were falling apart, with their windows busted and doors missing, but a few were demolished entirely. After scoping out potential places to spend the night, we decided the best place, which had the least damage, was my house. As Doriyan and Chai were barricading doors and windows, I was busy setting up trip-wire alarms in the front and back yards. With a good web-like perimeter set, I got inside and helped block the last door. After the house was taken care of, all of our stomachs growled at the same time. "Was that... a synchronized stomach growl?" I asked. Doriyan and I both laughed, and I walked off saying, "I'll go see what's edible in the kitchen."

I flicked the light switch, but it seemed the power was out. Sighing, I bumbled around until I found and lit an electric lantern. It cast a pale, eerie light over the room, but I could see well enough. I turned to the fridge and mumbled, "If the power hasn't been gone long, the fridge should be okay." However, the power HAD been gone long, and when I opened the fridge, the horrid stench that assaulted me could have peeled the paint off of a tank! Reeling and gagging, I sputtered, "Okay... canned stuff it is..." I gathered a bunch of cans from the pantry, a few forks and sodas, then walked back into the living room. We sat in a circle with everything in between us, and after bargaining and trading, we all got what we wanted.

Shortly after that, I pulled a shuriken from my pocket and popped open everyone's food with it. "Ah, shurikens; 67 fabulous non-combat uses." I marveled. Doriyan and I dug in immediately, but Chai looked at us in disgust. "Gross!" she said, "How can you eat that cold?" Doriyan and I looked at each other, then I swallowed my food and said, "Well, don't knock it 'til you try it." She scoffed and drank her soda. What a bizarre character she is. Who doesn't like cold ravioli?
