This is Alex, Mercer. The story begins when he wakes up in a morgue and only gets better from there. The enemies in this game consist of brain dead zombies that evolve and infect buildings, giving the buildings giant blisters that pop and explode blood. However, Alex hates the military, which in this game consists of the Marines, and a Black Ops group with the virtues of Nazi's known as Blackwatch because they consistantly attempt to kill Alex. Alex also hates them because they made him the way he is. They shoot anyone that pisses them off, or knows too much. They have a codename for Alex which is "Zues". Why they gave the main character a codename that is the Ancient Greek god of lightning is beyond me. But as it turns out, Alex is not a prototype, he is a virus, and he did this to himself.
