Sephiroth is the child of the two Shinra scientists Professor Hojo and Dr. Lucrecia Crescent. Although he believes that his mother is Jenova, his real mother is Dr. Crescent. He concieved in the basements of the Shinra Manor in Neiblehiem, Cloud Strife's home town. While there, Prof. Hojo injected the embryo of Dr. Crescent's child with cells from Jenova, an ancient organism that Sephiroth later controls. Vincet Valentine, who was a member of Shinra's Turks at the time, was assigned in the protection of Dr. Crescent. The two soon fell in love, but it was never to last. The cells of Jenova were malignent inside the doctor and began to corrode her psyche. He was raised by the Shinra Corporation and was sent to Neiblehiem to investigate the appearance of monsters, when he learned the truth about himself
